Calculating center of gravity for an overland build

    1) The center of gravity will change dramatically with changes in load. 2) You are somewhere between highly unlikely and virtually impossible to get a full-size truck bed trailer to roll over on regular fire service roads at sane speeds. The vehicles the fire departments use are huge and top...

    CVT Rainfly Leaks

Hey all, I have a CVT Denali Summit series that I bought used last summer. Over the winter, I discovered that even in a relatively light rain the fly leaks pretty badly, leading to a huge pool up on the extended cover of the tent. I wasn’t ever able to track it exactly, but it seems that the...

Does anyone have experience with Dock Outdoors Field Kitchens? (Zarges based chuck box)

I have to say, I am a fan of the various plastic tables, although I’ll probably bump up to stainless for heat resistance and because the plastic ones are... plastic ... and deform quite easily when strapped in for long periods. However, the main function of a good chuck box that I’ve always...

Mounting a 13" / group 31 battery to frame rail

Lots of medium duty delivery trucks use frame mounted battery shelves (lacking a better word)... hit a salvage yard with a tape measure?

Can't get the S Pod to work, any thoughts? SOLVED!

It has a low voltage cutoff device. I would figure out how to check that. maybe you have a high resistance connection at battery or source box that is causing a low voltage read and tripping it out?

Looking for Pics Rear Entry RTT

I don’t know how many pics I have, if any, but my Tepui Kukenam easily cleared the swing of the Jeep tire carrier when I moved it back so it overhung the rack by maybe 8” or so. It was a convenient place to get out of the most severe rain and covered the back of the rig nicely. Opening over...

(SOLD) RAD Adventure Trailer $20,000 (NEW)

What does “upgraded” mean with respect to cabinets and galley? Didn’t you build this custom? What did you “upgrade” from and to?

    Cab Overhang

I thought optical illusion at first but look at how the frame / body is bending and misaligned at the cab to bed gap. Probably not going to get many miles on that setup before a problem happens.

    camper composites

If you can’t put your physical address on your website, I’m not interested in doing business with you. The concept runs parallel to one of my basic rules: If your first name and your business name are the same, you probably aren’t sophisticated enough to do business with me.

kitchen - starting with a skeleton

That all depends on the fridge. In a JKU, you probably won’t make it work. The battery might sit up on the wheel well, but may interfere with the seat belt. My ARB 50 is within an inch of touching the top of the back seat and about an inch of touching the back door. I just run off one battery...

kitchen - starting with a skeleton

I see your point. Mine is quite a bit different, as my entire thing is on a full width slide, so the chuck box just sits next to the fridge. Although you have a valid point about how far “out” You will be to have the fridge and kitchen drawer move together, there might be some usefulness in...

kitchen - starting with a skeleton

Maybe a fold down shelf on the drivers side of the fridge solves your “set stuff” problem without requiring another set of slides?

    2000 Cherokee - worth 10-11k?

This is interesting. I’ve noticed the local junkyards are now crushing every classic Cherokee with a loader bucket when they come in. Probably to keep people from asking if they can buy these rust free bodies and try to rebuild salvages to flip into this insane market. I’ve had a Cherokee...

    Bin Labels

Anyone with access to a pipe label printer like a Brady or Duralabel should be able knock those out easily. You could also cut Negative space labels with something like a Cricut. Should be easy. Stuff like “fire extinguisher inside” are already common, but buying small volumes might be tough.

Poor fit of ARB 50 qt Classic fridge cover ???

It has been years since I installed mine, but I would say the fit is similar. It doesn’t cover the hinge section and you have to stretch the bottom into place fairly tightly. It never occurred to me that it should be considered too short. on edit, I rolled it out of the jeep And the fit is...

Need Welding Advice - Concerned About Quality

That is a great end to the story. I can understand him being upset by the thread. I think it is very classy that you did not share his identity. I am curious, did he try to defend the work, argue with the internet critics, or admit he was in over his head and shouldn’t have taken on the job?

Where do you buy used roof top tent?

There is a classifieds section here and most tents end up in the “expedition equipment” section. Some tent companies also do consignment or classifieds through their websites (maybe CVT?). Craigslist is possible too. I’ve bought/sold 4 used tents over the years. Best luck was here on the...

DIY storage system it for cloths, camping gear, etc.?

I let each of my kids have 1 duffle bag like a gym bag. I specifically bought some that fit in my Jeep in a single layer. Dirty clothes go together in a bag designated until the next laundry stop. If you are looking for drawer systems or something, that is what this forum does (among other...

    Unibody style frame?

Seems far overkill and as others have noted will be more floppy than you think. If you have a 6-10’ press brake you could work with 14 - 18 gauge and get something strong by welding on hat sections and rolling in some profiles, but hard to say it will be “better” than traditional body on frame...

Great tool for building your own parts for your rig

I think you could easily get the same effect on the Swag unit simply by welding some round rod onto some 3/4 flat bar and replacing the fingers with it. You might have to customize the lower die, but they appear to intend the die you linked to be a coining die, and that consumes a lot of force...
