Any one have any experience with the Dometic Portable freezer? (not Thermoelectric)

Just because the display is lit does not necessarily mean the compressor is running. However, you may be fine if everything is staying cold. On many fridges, there is an error light that will indicate if the fridge is not getting an adequate power supply...or the display will indicate a...

Any one have any experience with the Dometic Portable freezer? (not Thermoelectric)

You may want to run another outlet specifically for the fridge...with heavier gauge wire. Most factory outlets will not reliably power a fridge. It may operate while the vehicle is running, but might shut down when the motor is off.

Any one have any experience with the Dometic Portable freezer? (not Thermoelectric)

I have had 2 Waeco Coolmatics (now Dometic, I believe) and they were both problem free. One is now over 10 years old and still functions perfectly. I just sold the larger 8-year-old Waeco, also still working as great as the day I bought it. I was very happy with them, especially since they...

    Sport Fridge by Fridge Freeze

I used a FridgeFreeze for about 10 years. When I bought my 60-liter FridgeFreeze for around $1700 (now $2045), they were all called FridgeFreeze. There was no SportFridge line. You just paid more if you wanted the features that made it suitable for transporting medical supplies and body...

    ARB Fridge wiring question.

The power outlets on most vehicles, even new ones, are wired with small gauge wiring that cannot supply the necessary voltage to the fridge...especially over a long run like to the rear of the vehicle. But you can try it. It will probably work fine when the vehicle is running, but might shut...

Salvaged Rubicon Unlimited is it worth it? Question

A friend of mine just bought a 2014 Rubicon that had been rolled in California. It also had a ton of very nice aftermarket accessories, lift, etc.,...and leather interior. I believe he paid $15,000. After replacing the windshield frame, radiator, hardtop, and a few suspension parts, he...

    hood flutter

Rugged Ridge Hood Latches. They are big and beefy and what should have been on the JK from the factory. When the wrangler body style was re-designed with a wider and flatter hood, Chrysler failed to re-design the obsolete hood latch mechanism. You shouldn't have to zip-tie your hood down. I...

    New ARB fridge changes

I've been using wireless remote readouts in my fridges for 10 years. I use the small weather station sensors and receivers available at places like Radio Shack. The receiver is always placed where it can be read from the driver's seat. It's about time someone included it as a feature in the...

    ARB fridge power

I've used numerous fridges (Waeco, FridgeFreeze, ARB) in several vehicles and have not found one yet that would run for more than a few minutes off of any stock 12-volt cigarette lighter outlet when the vehicle was not running...regardless of the battery in the vehicle. Those outlets are not...

    ARB Fridge/Freezer Performance Question

Ditto on the wire size being the problem. Your Leer dealer should have known better...if you told him the planned use for the outlet. I've used numerous fridges in several vehicles (now using the 63-qt ARB in the JKU) and usually use either 8 or 10 gauge wire made for car stereo applications...

    need help choosing a fridge/freezer

I haven't found a bad freezer/fridge yet. I started with a small Waeco Coolmatic...moved up to a larger one...then got an expensive and heavy FridgeFreeze for the truck...and now a 63-qt ARB for the JKU. Every one of them has worked perfectly and continues to work perfectly. The power draw...

Need a flat floor for my JKU

I had a friend who does custom metal work make it for me. It is anchored by the 3 holes you can see at the rear...using existing seat bracket attachment points and the OEM bolts. The only drilling required was for a screw to go through a flange at the bottom of each side plate close to the...

Need a flat floor for my JKU

I don't think Kilby makes that anymore. It has shown "out of stock" for well over a year now. I contacted them a long time ago and they said they had no idea when it would be available again. So I made my own:

To fridge or not to fridge?

I assume you know that the units you mentioned are thermoelectric coolers rather than compressor-driven fridges as discussed in this thread. There is a HUGE difference. I used a couple of them before I bought a real fridge/freezer and found them to be pretty much useless. They only cool to a...

To fridge or not to fridge?

Exactly...I should have mentioned that. Most OEM outlets will work for a fridge as long as the motor is running. The OEM outlet may or may not continue to supply enough power when the motor is off. Even if it does, it's going to be borderline...especially on a long run like the rear outlet in...

To fridge or not to fridge?

I had mine plugged into there temporarily (2013)...it would sometimes shut off. The wiring to the OEM sockets is usually small gauge and borderline for a fridge. It's always better to run heavy gauge wire to the battery.

To fridge or not to fridge?

I haven't bought ice in at least 10 years and would never go back to a regular cooler. I've had Waeco Coolmatics and now use the ARB 63-qt in the JK....dual batteries recommended but not necessary if you are careful. I run dual Odysseys in the Genesis tray. The fridge lives in the Jeep 24/7...

Edgestar Problem: Fridge Not Functioning Properly on 12v

I would also recommend using a Hella socket rather than a standard 12v cigarette lighter type socket. When I've used standard sockets, I sometimes had to wiggle the plug around to get a good contact. The Hella-type socket makes MUCH better contact and is a more secure connection.

Any one build storage for your JKU?

I would if I had them. It was built by a friend of mine who does custom metal work. I'm now having him build a small rack to go over my Teraflex Tire Carrier/Hinge.
