    Blue Loctite vs. Nylock

If a specific torque reading / rating is needed, loctite. But I use a lot of nyloc nuts in a lot of places. I think they hold much better in low-torque applications.

Tepui Ruggedized 3 Autana arrived damaged - can I fix?

They are pretty great at customer service, or at least have been for the 2 tents I bought directly. It is worth a direct call or email. My suspicion is that damage won’t impact the use of the tent, unless more is found. But annoying all the same.

Tepui Ruggedized 3 Autana arrived damaged - can I fix?

File a damage report with the shipper. That does not appear to be the hinge but instead the mount for some of the straps / hook and loop, and the corner of the tent bottom itself. It can Most likely be repaired with some rivet replacement if you can get the parts but that is ridiculous and...

    Interior shelf for Rigid box

Careful.. it is easy to drill through the inner fender and hit your tire. Don’t ask how I know... I’m too far from beer.

    Interior shelf for Rigid box

Nice. I did something very similar for 50 cal cans, but used riv-nuts into the inside face and top of the wheel well to hold the bracket. I like the rigid box idea.

    Too narrow?

I would say the Chaser tows really well on and off road. Getting used to the movement of the air suspension and articulating hitch takes a bit of adjustment. The trailer is much more lively than a typical cargo trailer. I suspect it is just excited to go camping. Pay attention to weight...

Questions for SolidWorks Users and/or Engineering Graduates

The single biggest financial mistake I made in going to engineering school was buying a high end computer. Something like $4k at the time and all my roommates used it for gaming. Buy something simple and cheap that can run office and browse the web and use the school computer lab resources for...

Building our box out of wood?

While I completely agree with many of the simpler solutions pointed out above, I wouldn’t discount the idea of CNC plywood shaped for a skeleton. There is a whole community out there of home-built CNC routers and they aren’t expensive. For less than the price of a nice cabinet saw you can be...

Haha! I guess I can play along. I didn’t really expect responses, but if anyone wants this box, it is available and in my way. I’m willing to provide a protective layer of clear packing tape over the damaged areas! Box is still very solid and structurally sound. Sorry, dead bug photo not...

Free: ARB 47 L BOX ONLY

Every now and then you hear about people having to ship their ARB back for service and not having a box anymore... so I kept mine. 6 years in I’ve never needed it, so I’m going to tempt fate and cut it up for recycling unless someone wants it. Box is free but you pay shipping if you don’t...

    Do's and Don'ts

Truth here. Some of my brothers’ and my best memories are of throwing stuff at each other. Many projectiles were supplied by nature. Rocks, crabapples, sticks, mushrooms, snow, ice, acorns, cow pies, more sticks, bigger rocks... it was a rich childhood and we had very little electronic...

Possible to have a rtt sit flush with the roof (Tacoma) as well as a 270 degree awning mounted higher?

Probably gonna be really tricky. The awning will interfere with the tent setup. Might be better to rock a pop up for a while, or raise the tent higher.

Finding RTT mounting slide plates in stock??

Sorry, no luck. I only have one set of 8 and I want to keep it with the tent I’m selling in case the buyer wants the factory style mounts. I’ve given all the rest away over the years.

Is It a Terrible Idea to Convert My Utility/Service Body Trailer to an Overland Trailer?

Sometimes free is very costly. You might be better off to sell it and use the cash as seed money for a scratch-build.

Finding RTT mounting slide plates in stock??

Yes, drill another hole, or use a jam nut on the other side to keep them tight, or solder them down? Or drill for 1 size larger then file the bolt heads square until they are snug. However: You really don’t need those aluminum tracks. You can replace them with steel Unistrut from Home Depot...
