14" on center sounds about right for Medic Master side spacing - the cab end will be about 18" on center.
The side skin will be about 0.090" - the roof should be about 0.100".
Access along the sides will be by pulling all the side warning and scene lights. You'll have enough room that you can...
With this kind of muck, gravity feed is the easiest solution, but there's nothing that can get as heavy as a drywall hopper gun full of anything.
If you do use one, saw off about half the hopper so it only holds about a quart or two - it will also be a lot easier to maneuver in a compartment.
Thanks for the offer, but you're about 3 weeks late -- I bought the material a while ago, then welded it up last week. It was Scotch-brited and acid cleaned today to prep it for paint tomorrow - epoxy primer then a coat of Freightliner white.
The cabinet I'm using is about 6 ft high, so I have...
Tire Stuff-
I'm sticking with my standard stock 245/70/R19.5 tires, primarily because I'm not planning to go off-roading, plus I'm old enough that I can't physically handle the weight of a larger tire any more.
Since many fire departments / volunteer ambulance organizations can rely on...
Sound the bells and ring the trumpets!
I've been searching for a suitable heavy duty grill that I can use for fresh air for the generator, and for exhaust cooling air. I've dug through electronic piles of data, and I keep not finding what I was looking for. I checked with McMaster - nope. I...
A set of wires in the blower area kind of makes sense. Normally, a standard Hoseline thermostat is installed on the wall of the module so it can be adjusted easily - it senses with an internal bimetal strip. The newer CM-3000 digital thermostat has a separate sensor on a cable. The sensor is...
Pat, if the carpet is glued to the floor of the cabinet, why not peel it off and then just slide in some gray compartment tiles? Foster has them for $5/each, and they're standard on most ambulances - I probably have over 100 SF of them in my compartments and on my shelves.
Spraying into a compartment becomes easier if you need less air to atomize the finish you're spraying (= less bounceback). Using a gravity-feed spray gun would help, and so would using a pressure feed spray gun. Unfortunately, I'll bet that the coating is normally sprayed with something...
A Medic Master mounts the heater/AC evaporator directly over the walk through - or where the walk through would be. Here are some photos that may help you:
Photo showing a Hoseline 'stat (the white control that says Hoseline)
Photo showing a current Hoseline CM-3000 thermostat
AC wiring -...
Hey - that's why we're here -- we learn from each other.
If you have a Freightliner, don't plan on a high velocity air flow from the dash grill. Every one I've ever seen blows like there should be one more speed than it has. Mine cools the cab, and I can always feel cool air from the grill, but...
The Select Tech number includes the lock keying - for instance, the photo I used was for a core keyed TM-202. It seems there are only 5-6 keys used on ambulances. I replaced all of my exterior lock cores, probably since the VFD that owned it never used the door locks. It takes a little fiddling...
Ross, the locks on a Medic Master ambulance are made by the Tri-Mark Company. They also make locks for many of the RVs that are out there. You can buy new cylinders at Select Tech (http://www.fixmyambulance.com/category-s/1877.htm). Not as fancy, and not as secure, as going with an Ace tubular...
I just found your thread - welcome to the Ambulance Collector's Society.
You're doing it right - get the mechanical portion figured out and working correctly before you tackle the interior - besides, it gives you time to figure out what to do with the interior.
I agree!
I don't give a hoot what the box measures - I want to know about the tool that I'm buying. The other challenge is tracking down the actual supplier's web site - in many cases, there are multiple suppliers with very similar names. Even if you do find the web site, matching their...
I decided to buy a set of wheel centering guides from Amazon. They showed up today, and I found that they wouldn't fit through my Alcoa wheels. One more instance of Amazon's incomplete descriptions causing problems.
If anyone wants to order a set, they are for a 22mm stud, and the minimum...
A few years ago, you saw quite a few commercial trucks setup to run on propane with a fairly large tank mounted where the truck's normal saddle fuel tank would sit. I haven't seen any in a few years, though. Maybe they're running compressed natural gas or something else these days.
You might...
Any propane bottle that is designed to be portable will have to come out for filling so it can be weighed. You can buy larger propane tanks designed for permanent installation, but filling becomes a headache. Consumption isn't bad with a stove or a water heater, but a propane-fueled generator...
I had considered an underbody mounted tank, but the high price and the fairly small sizes available pointed my to a standard 20# BBQ tank - I could get them anywhere, I could buy a trade-a-tank package, whatever. As my plans evolved further, and since I have an electric water heater, I decided...
