    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Just some little stuff today. Got my hands on some Ford Mustang exhaust studs/nuts. They're a bit longer than the Mitsu ones on both ends, and have a square end so you can get them in and out without the double-nut method, etc. And they look super fancy, or something.. So the manifolds are...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Yeah, the guide seals would be tough to do without having the head off to do valve springs using a tool like I had. I know there are people doing it with rope and compressed air and stuff, but man....seems like almost less work to just pull the heads and do new HGs while you're at it, maybe.

Put the engine up on the hoist today in order to access the rear main seal and get that taken care of, since I wanted that done so i could put the oil pan on... Then back onto the stand and put the oil pan on Put in new spark plugs, distributor/rotor, and wires And loosely bolted on...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

First today, a little thing.....some splash guards to replaced the missing factory pieces inside the wheel wells. Just cut them out of some really thing HDPE sheet. Painted them black later, but here's what they looked like. Yay. Now, today's main project. Time to put this engine back...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Pulled the injectors off both fuel rails to see how they look. Once cleaned up they physically look fine. Gonna backflush them and test them, then put new caps and seals on. I would have them rebuilt, but not something I feel like dropping $100+ on right now. Then took the old (very worn)...

Back to "work" today - i.e. telecommuting for a job that is almost impossible to do at home, but doing what I can. Spent most of the workday doing government annual training (like, half of the year's worth) while sorting nuts and bolts.....yeah it's that boring The weather was great this...

Budget-friendly big rack on the Sequoia (refresh)

So i built this little (ok, big) rack a while back, figured i'd post up a few pics here since I just made some changes to it and in case anyone gets any ideas from it (and I'm well aware that a lot of you here have truly epic racks so not trying to compare to those, but this is what I made for...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

A little break from the Raider today as I took off the (very heavy) roof rack from the Sequoia to make some modifications to it - better tie-downs, a grab rail on the side opposite the roll-out shelter, better access to the mounts for the cargo box (not currently on it), rewired all my lighting...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Nice day to get some stuff done (after doing the requisite yard work and stuff). Felt like addressing something I forgot earlier - the two flexible fuel lines that come down under the back of the engine bay. I replaced the hoses at the back of the truck, and the ones up in the bay that attach...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Yeah, hopefully everyone just sits their asses down and chills.... I'm actually amazed how many house/car projects I'm getting done that I had been putting off forever (or were never going to do in the first place), now that I have all this time around the house. -- Continued on with some...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Aside from work-related stuff, been trying to keep myself extra-busy in the garage to avoid thinking about what's going on in the world, because this ******** is getting even more scary. I have 10 more days before I have to go back to the office (I'm "essential" federal personnel, working on a...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Doing the stuff is the only thing keeping ME sane with all this time at home (though I'm working remotely as well for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks in the office, then 2 weeks back at home). Federal life.....but happy to see people are following along even though I'm just doing normal stuff and nothing...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Spent some time this afternoon cleaning more parts, which I won't bother to show. Also dropped the oil pan so I could remove the oil pump housing. Pan was full of chocolate milkshake, not surprisingly. I didn't even bother cleaning it, back to the shed it went and I'll use the pan off the other...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Man, my hands are taking a beating with all this grease. Even with nitrile gloves on usually, I feel like I've washed them like 50 times with Dawn in the last few days. So where was I? Had to telework most of the day today, but had some time later this afternoon to get some stuff done. First...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Just grinding along.....man, there's a lot of grimy stuff in this engine. And here I am running low on nitrile gloves since everyone is buying them up . I actually went ahead and ordered a whole case (10 boxes/1000 gloves) not because I want to, but because apparently nobody thought to check...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Today's first task was to rebuild the driveshaft u-joints. These look to be the originals, as the rubber cap/seals are totall disintegrated and they look pretty gnarly (though honestly, the action still feels pretty smooth). In any case, figured no better time than now to get them refreshed. So...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Took a quick run to the scrapyard first thing this morning. Bye bye old POS. And hey, they gave me $101.60 for it, which is $100 more than I would have taken for it lol... With that out of the way, and some stuff in from Rockauto, I got to doing some transmission refresh. First order of...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Of all my cars (current and past) it's probably my favorite to street drive, honestly. Fairly comfortable, even in mostly-stock form it handles great and feels planted on the road no matter how fast you are going in a straight line or in a corner. Gets around 30mpg. Not "fast" per se but the...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Oh hey. My garage bay is empty again! That's because I finally hauled this piece of junk up onto the trailer, so I can take it to the scrapper tomorrow. I think I have every possible thing off it I could need (hope so). I probably should have pulled the LSD from the rear axle, but honestly...
