    Tepui Tent RTT

Interesting that they state that a RTT is more efficient fuel wise than towing a trailer. Our tests show that having a RTT on top of a vehicle reduces the mpg by 15% - 20%, where as a typical Overland Trailer that is within the vehicles slipstream only reduces it 10% -12%. At 200g/sq.m the...

    Family RTT suggestions?

I'm sure the 2200 will fit on the roof rack, and something this size is the only real solution for a family of 5. The tent weighs 215 lbs, so it will effect your center of mass. You also need to take into consideration you have a lifted JK on 35" tires, so your center of mass is already raised...

    Family RTT suggestions?

A little off track, but seeing as you have a 4 door JK and you need to sleep 5 people I think you should consider the JK Habitat It's a direct replacement for the factory roof and only increases the weight by 100 lbs. What you are dealing with right now is a roof rack and a RTT, so the cost...

    Chaser water pump

I didn't know that you could get repair kits. I do know that all of the ones I've seen that leak are beyond any help a repair kit can offer as the internal housing was cracked.

Jo'burg is at 5700 ft. so the weather can be a little chilly. The lowest point in Lesotho is 4600 ft, good thing you brought the hoody. If you get a chance check out some Jazz clubs in Jo'burg, last time I was there the African Jazz Pioneers were playing in a local pub.

    Chaser water pump

Removal of the water from the pump is essential during freezing conditions, doesn't seem to matter which pump it is. We have had to replace a few filters on Shurflo pumps when they have frozen with water in them. Easy to take the filter off if you know temperatures are going to drop, most...

    Chaser water pump

The problem is having water inside a small tube inside the pump. The pump handle can be left in the locked position to hold the prime, if it freezes when the pump is primed with water it cracks. It may help to release the prime so the water in the pump drains back into the tank. Even doing...

    J8 Expedition Project:

I haven't looked into this but it may be more feasible to attach the rack towers to the vertical walls of the lower shell, and use quick release towers and cross bars. That way the stress would be taken by the vertical walls. The tower cross bar combination would have to be removed prior to...

I don't see a hat? Will you be wearing the pyramid shaped Mongolian number you picked up? My tactics are a little different. When I travel to SA I go with one carry on bag and what I'm wearing. When I get there I buy all of my clothes either at Mr Price or Cape Union Mart. I pick up a couple of...

    J8 Expedition Project:

Remember the cantilever effect. If you add weight away from the pivot point it has the multiplier of the distance from the pivot point. As pointed out the torsion bar is rated to make the opening and closing of the roof section easy. Increasing the spring rate to accommodate extra weight on the...

    Just...AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may well be correct. The roll cage does however extend the whole length of the interior of the vehicle from the windscreen back to the rear door. They gray area may well be that it hasn't been through countless inspection because of the way the current regulations are written. It's a hard...

    Just...AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's interesting that they have removed the roll cage. From what I gather from my colleagues in Europe modification of the existing vehicle from a safety perspective is no longer allowed by European standards. The manufacturers of vehicle tops like this are now working in a gray area, not quite...

If you end up in Swakopmund there is a wonderful Germany style spa attached to the public pool. Great sauna and plunge pool. Great way to get the sand and dirt out of your skin after being in the Namib.

Full Size Truck/Expedition Truck Concept Vehicle

Sorry, I've been busy with the JK Habitat release and haven't followed up with the build as planned. All the storage units were placed into the truck the day before SEMA!!!! Talk about last minute. 1Leglance from Disabled Explorers helped me assemble everything in the SEMA parking lot. I'd...

    The RTT waterfall

Alas I see your problem is with the cover itself, not the tent. I never experienced this with mine. Try placing something in the middle of the tent under the cover to create a slight slope to the cover. Hopefully it will prevent pooling.

    The RTT waterfall

When I owned one I used to get water pooling on the fabric just above the ladder. To solve it I lowered one side to have it drain to one side. The support pole can be retracted to a shorter length on one side. Is this the same problem you are having? Even though I had a solution to the problem...
