It's good to see that the government is doing something to try to conserve the native plants and animals since generally speaking, in the culture there is little importance given to it. The Cerro Apante Nature Reserve is basically a mountain that is cordoned off and protected from hunting...

Chinese trucks It's been a while since I could make time to post. The busy time of the year at my job just ended last week, so I'm looking forward to a few months of more tranquility and maybe some more travel around the country :-D I just noticed that the link for one of my videos of the...

2001 Tacoma Overland (So it Begins)

Those are GREAT looking bumpers! I look forward to the rest of your buildup.

    Toyota vs Nissan?

Ditto. I enjoy my Taco greatly, but have often desired more bed space, especially when considering putting a cap on it to enclose a sleeping deck (the mrs and I actually can fit, but most cannot). I've never been in one, but I'd bet that the access cab rear seat space in the Tundra is somewhat...

unURBAN Adventures - Alaska to Argentina to AFRICA!

awesome Awesome story and photos. You guys had perfect weather for a peak climb. I had planned to summit that peak when I was in school in Puebla/Cholula, but we only got around to summiting La Malinche, which at 4461metros/14635ft is a fun one itself for beginning alpinists... especially...

Interesting, I first saw this kind of milk when I live in Puebla, MX for school 10 years ago and I hadn't seen it again until I moved here. Perhaps I just never walk down the right isle at HEB in the US :-D It seems to be more common in countries where many of the people don't have refrigerators.

    La Vida Nica

I have lived in Boulder/Denver on I-25 and Austin on I-35 and in both places I saw what I called 'road trains' of cars going south. A truck or van towing another truck towing a car or small truck. I saw hundreds of them. I knew they were being exported south but I always wondered how they...

HA! Of course, that is because nothing else had made it out there yet. It's like faulting the Amish for only knowing how to repair horse drawn buggies. :-P

Thanks for the interest :-D Feliz y Próspero Año Nuevo to everyone! I've been in Leon the last couple of days for the New Years celebration. Leon is the second largest city in the country, more affluent than the rest of the country and with a lot of college students going to the many...

    who mog got bounced around

My thought exactly. It looks like they put chains to the axles and perhaps that one flopping around was to the mog body. Now I know why my father always taught me to put chains to the frame and cross them from one side to another. Very scary situation. That looks like a really long bridge...

You forgot an obligatory snorkel and 12 forward facing lights. j/k. :-P Ditto, great article. One thing I didn't see but could be included in recovery points are jacking points for a hi-lift since so few vehicles come with suitable equip from the factory. Perhaps this has been done and...

    Pan Am Bum Rush!

Mmmm, Central American tacos (similar to MX taquitos, rolled and fried) with cabbage and beet salad. Great photos, looks like a fun trip.

Recargar is like to recharge; 'La recarga' is 'the recharge' which in this instance means to purchase credit for cell phones. Cagar does indeed mean 'to take a ********" (vulgar word chosen to express the level of vulgarity of cagar.) Recaga isn't a real word, but one might interpret it to mean...

One thing that is always present in this country is the poverty. This is a typical very simple house and their garbage recycling system. Pigs are used worldwide because they are the best animal for converting garbage to food. Just be careful of the trichinosis which is a problem here...

Thanks for the link. There are a Great Wall truck and an SUV in town that look EXACTLY like a 1990s Toyota truck and 4Runner. I've been trying to catch them parked to get some photos... I thought they were re-badged Toyotas (or badge engineered models ) for a while, or perhaps Toyota had...
