How to corrosion-proof a saltwater beach truck?

I posted this in another forum as well. Some of those responses are added to my OP. Just bought a pretty nice '96 Suburban 2500 4x4 w/ a 454, in great shape. It will be used to drive from San Antonio down to Padre Island National Seashore (150 miles), then the 120 mile roundtrip beach drive...

    Across Africa in a P-car 944

Another cool trip by a guy who obviously isn't worried about aftermarket bumpers, or the biggest winch. Done in an old Porsche 944, with a chick in tow to boot! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/activityandadventure/9508665/Across-Africa-in-a-classic-Porsche-in-pictures.html?frame=2323841

Suburban vs Suburban, which rig to choose? PICS ADDED

Hi all- Which is the better rig for heading down PINS reliably? A '92 K2500 454, or a '97 K1500 5.7? I am considering both, each will cost about the same. It will occasionally be airborne by accident, while driving the mind-numbing 60 miles (one way) down the beach and dunes (and then back...

    FS: 255/85/16 Big-O Bigfoot XT's

I have a set of 4 Big-O Bigfoot XT's for sale. IIRC, 2 have about 75% tread, 1 about 50%, and 1 about 30% (that is the top one in the pic). These are STUDDED tires. They are in a barn in Napa, CA. They are mounted on steel wheels, I think 70's Chevy 5 lug. $250 OBO. I can get some better...

    My beach fishing trailer

Just thought I'd show some pics of a fishing trailer I use to tow the 60 miles of beach to get to the Mansfield Channel. That's my 14yo learning to drive a clutch in one of the pics.

Different wheel diameters for Chevy 3/4 ton options?

What other options do I have for wheels on my '88 Suburban 3/4 ton? I like the tall skinny 255/85/16's on there now, but there is a lack of options in that size tire. I know there are 17's and 20's out there, will any bolt up? Are there more tire options for other wheel sizes? Thanks

Budget Xploder @ PINS edited w/ trailer pics

Here is a pic of my $1600 Explorer POS down at PINS last weekend. I bought it specifically for heading there, I figure it it gets stuck and eaten by waves, no big deal. The flies were terrible, the sargasso thick, and the fishing poor. Also the dog puked in the tent, and one of my kids got a...

Hi-Lift jackpoints on a stock 80's square body GM?

Where would you put the jack without wrecking the truck when you lift it?

    rooftop tire mounting

Anyone have any experience with storing their spare up on the roof? I upgraded to 255's on my old Suburban, so the spare no longer fits in the interior cutout for it. So it's going on the roof. I bought a Smittybilt brand tire cover, I figured I would sew some webbing in an "X" to it so I can...

Paris to Calcutta: 16,000 KM and 18 countries

Saw this over on another forum I frequent, so I thought I'd post it here as well. Vehicle is a Porsche 928 GTS. Sorry if this is an Enzo. Link: http://www.porsche-928-expedition.com/accueil/ French 928 forum discussion: http://forums.amicale928.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5053 Rennlist forum...

'88 Suburban sagging rear end- options?

My 1988 3/4 ton Suburban V20 4x4 has sagging rear springs. I sometimes tow a trailer with it, and it becomes apparent that the rear-end is overloaded- it feels like the springs have gone soft. I think it has the longer 56" rear springs. The vehicle has rear A/C. Hellwig makes a couple of...

    Square-body Suburban tire carrier?

Does someone have a link for a good solution for mounting the spare outside the vehicle? I have an 88 Suburban w/ barn doors. I saw a pic somewhere her of an E350 that had a carrier that spanned half the width of the rear, allowing the LH door to open. Mods feel free to move this wherever it...
