Bolting jerry can mounts directly to tailgate? Talk me out of it...

I think there area some mixed signals here. MOST of the time, the truck has a fiberglass camper shell/topper/canopy/whatever they call it where you're from (see first post). In that configuration, it obviously has the tailgate on, and that is the configuration that would need external jerry...

Bolting jerry can mounts directly to tailgate? Talk me out of it...

I agree that would be easier; but I'm apprehensive about putting them inside. I could be convinced, as I do have actual Wavian cans that * should* be leak and fume proof.

Bolting jerry can mounts directly to tailgate? Talk me out of it...

Thanks for all the comments so far, folks. Good points that underscore my list of cons above. Should also mention that one of the reasons that I'm anti-swingout is that one of the various configurations of this truck is FWC hauler. The camper overhang would be a problem, then there are the...

Bolting jerry can mounts directly to tailgate? Talk me out of it...

I don't think I own any "survival equipment." Like most folks on here, I would prefer to keep the fuel on the exterior of the vehicle for various reasons.

Bolting jerry can mounts directly to tailgate? Talk me out of it...

Thanks. See con #2! Intended for this? Of course not-- that's half the fun. Kinda like 80's Rangers weren't "intended" to have V8s... that's a sweet build!

Bolting jerry can mounts directly to tailgate? Talk me out of it...

Believe me, I would love to go full swingout, but it's not in the budget or really necessary 99% of the time. I hear you on the weight, which is why I would probably through-bolt the entire tailgate and use massive washers or some sort of backing plate-- not really looking for fit-and- finish...

You're not wrong. That's one of the reasons I drive a 20-year-old truck with subtle mods-- nothing to see here...

Bolting jerry can mounts directly to tailgate? Talk me out of it...

I'm looking for a way to transport two jerrys on my first-gen Tundra (camper shell, decked drawers, roof rack). I happen to have a banged- up spare tailgate that was destined for the trash/recycler, but it occurs to me that I could easily, and with zero concern about "damaging" it, bolt two can...

Rinse Kit Pro on sale at Costco for $189.99

Seems like a reasonable price for something that I could find a ton of uses for around camp and beyond. Anybody got any hands- on time...

    Maxtrax lite?

I watched that earlier today. The FJ setup is probably most comparable to my truck (first gen Tundra, 265/75/16) and they seemed to work well.

    Maxtrax lite?

Has anyone gotten any hands- on time with these? Trying to decide between them and the original version. Smaller, lighter, cheaper— they seem to have a lot of upside for those of us who probably won’t use them often.

WTB Rear Springs for First Gen Tundra

Long shot, but checking to see if anyone has any stout springs for a first gen Tundra gathering dust. Just got a FWC, so looking for Deaver, Alcan etc. Would also consider the HD OEM springs from General Spring or a set of airbags. Watcha got?
