Reasonable Mods For Carrying Heavy Things

I have a fairly similar truck to yours. Mine is a 1999 F-350 regular cab long bed with the 7.3 diesel. GVWR is also 9,900 lbs. However, I’m curious about your vehicle weight. The last time mine was weighed was a few years ago and I still had the stock bed, but it weighed about 6,700 pounds with...

Camper Covers for Winter - What are you using?

I have a hard side not a pop up but I also use a wooden a frame type thing on top of it with a simple tarp. It lets it breath under the tarp and also helps most of the snow slide off. It’s my first winter with it but it seems to be working well so far. Eventually once the old camper has had...

Better Buy Your New Rig Before the Tariffs Kick In 🤑

It would be smart for us all to remember that we’ve been down this road before with Trump. During his last presidency I was an engineer at a small manufacturing company in Maine. We made high end mechanical shaft seals. Fully designed and manufactured in the US. However we still needed raw...

    Jack suggestions and recommendations

Since the OP has a Tacoma, I just want to chime in and mention that Toyota recommended rear jack point is in fact the axle tube just inside of the U-bolt plate. I think it would be very difficult to jack up the truck off the frame in the rear with the stock jack due to how much higher the frame...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

Well it seems like I finally figured out this issue. I feel a bit dumb, but I relearned a lesson I should have already known. Always check the simple stuff first! I thought this was fuel related because right before the truck would finally start, the tone of the fuel pump would change. I...

Awesome! I’ll look forward to seeing it!

    Learn to Sail?

They are a bit ugly at first but they’re super cool! They also sail better than their looks would indicate. If you do end up building one, definitely put up a thread about it! I’d love to watch a build of one.

    Learn to Sail?

I have a little bit of sailing experience but not a lot, so I want to chime in from a place not a lot farther along than yours. I originally started doing some sailing on sunfish in Boy Scouts. They’re a ton of fun, but definitely a “bathing suit” boat. I then actually worked for a gentleman in...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

I’m pretty sure it’s aluminum but not positive. I’ll take another look tonight. What I can say is that it’s definitely not the laminated design you describe. I know the previous (and original) owners and they have had the exterior sides off of at least one side to fix the framing. I’m...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

The truck has officially passed its Maine inspection and is in full use. I just took it on a trip to western mass to move my grandmother back to Maine. It did awesome and towed my families 22’ enclosed trailer without issue. I am however still battling a minor issue I had before the frame swap...

    budget performance cars

My budget performance car is one people often don’t think about, but that I think is great fun and quite fast. A Honda Accord… yes an Accord. But only with the J series V6 and the 6 speed manual. My particular car is a 2006 with the 3.0 V6 and 6 speed manual. Mine is a sedan which they only made...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

it’s also time to introduce the camper that will be going on this truck. I picked up this camper earlier this summer from some family friends. The history on the camper is an older couple bought it new in 1989 and have had it since. They had numerous adventures around the country in it and...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

It’s about time for an update to this thread. The truck is just about wrapped up and I’ve put around 400 miles on it. I ended up going with Method wheels in the 17” size and put some 285/75-17’s (roughly 34”) on it. The tires are the Falken Wildpeak AT3W’s and so far I’m happy with them. I also...

Also a very nice looking truck. I almost went with 285/75-18’s but the wheels I wanted only came in 17’s.

    What was your first Jeep?

My first (and only) Jeep is a 1997 Wrangler TJ with the ubiquitous and horribly under powered 2.5 4 cylinder and the 5 speed. I bought it in 2012 after my junior year of high school and I still have it. It has seen countless wheeling trips and I have made so many memories with it. The next...

2017 Tacoma. Kick in the gut

Totally understandable, I’d still consider shopping around a bit more. It seems like you could find someone to do it for less than $12,000, but labor rates at shops have certainly gone up a lot. Really sorry you’re having to go through this man. These things really suck.

2017 Tacoma. Kick in the gut

If it helps, it looks like used engines have come down a little since I was looking. Here is one for $4,000 on eBay with 42,000 miles from a 2022 truck. I would think you could find someone to swap it in for less than another $8,000 in labor. Or if you’re handy maybe attempt it yourself...

2017 Tacoma. Kick in the gut

Unfortunately I have personal experience with the exact same issue. My mom has had now a total of four Tacomas. Her third one was a 2017 double cab short bed with the manual trans she bought new. Somewhere around 110,000 miles the check engine light came on and it seemed to be running a bit...
