Thanks, feel free to send any questions my way if you start going down this road in the future. I finished redoing the ceiling, I've got some pictures to put up of the new and improved one as soon in a couple of weeks (on vacation with limited internet access right now). I'll also be...

Thanks everyone for the latest input. This is excellent, thanks for the recommendation. I may put some of this in the cab... the engine noise in the cab above the 7.3 IDI is out of control. I'll have to give some thought to the best application for the box... may have to just deal with the...

@dlh62c ... i dig that, a lot. Gained a lot of inspiration from the tiny houses on this conversion. I'm trying to find the right balance of weight and style though, and putting that interior up might be a little more weight than I'm willing to give! Thanks

Nice! Great find, thank you. An additional question to throw out to everyone - I've seen a lot of conversions where carpet is glued to the plywood wall and ceiling panels. Obviously some carpet would lend to a little additional sound-proofing...I'm not that concerned about that though. I assume...

@pappawheely, good thought on leaving a bit of a gap between the furring strips and aluminum. No headliner, just finishing the luan panels and screwing them onto the furring strips. In regards to the spray foam, you're talking about using that for roof insulation instead of rigid foam...

Definitely know how that roof goes. I ended up putting panels of 3/4" polyiso in between the roof aluminum cross-members, and then just screwing 1/8" luan panels over everything. Just doing that significantly improved the heat transfer through the roof. However, there was still a lot coming...

A bit of a small town we live in (93405)... none of the other home improvement stores around here that I've talked to carry XPS. The local HD didn't carry it in stock, and pluggin my zip code into their website says they are unable to order it for any of the HD stores within 150 miles of me...

Thanks idasho. The lumber guy mentioned some 3'x7' sheets of 1/8" that they had in inventory when I was asking him about pricing on the red oak sheets, and the only thing that went through my mind was how odd of a size that was to have in plywood or luan. Door skins makes sense though, hadn't...

Yea, since the floor is out of the sun, even on warm days it stays fairly cool to the touch. Great when it's warm out, helps regulate interior temp... however, at night it sucks the heat out of the space real quick. I've had mine raw for over a year, did that three month trip in it, and have...

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll probably have more questions on the locking differentials in a couple of months after I knock out a few things on the interior :) This weekend's task is replacing the ceiling roof panels, followed by pulling out some cabinets and insulating the walls with...

Thanks for the input, I'll have to do some research on that! The company definitely didn't put any money into the vehicle beyond keeping it running well in order to transport their buggies, so I feel fairly certain they didn't install a locking differential on the vehicle. I'm still pretty...

Ulysses the Uhaul - Strategic Surf Assault Vehicle project build

Such a killer idea! I'll have to give that some more thought... the wall obviously wouldn't be able to go all the way to the top, to allow the door to roll up. So that still leaves some issues with the air penetration through the roll up door that I'm trying to alleviate... hmmm. I like it...

That's actually aluminum channel, the aluminum channel used previously for the box rub rails that I pulled off the wall :) There are plans to beef up that water tank support though. Thanks!

@southpier, definitely considered that, until the baby showed up on the radar and I realized we'd need the middle seat in that regular cab :) Structure would definitely support. Perhaps a couple of years down the line though when she can hang out in the box though. @matthewp thanks, your...

Great call... I think I'll go with your suggestion. What do you suggest for bonding the XPS to FRP exterior wall, and plywood to insulation? Glued with something like a 3M spray adhesive, or sandwiched between furring strips and held in place by the plywood screwed to the furring strips, or...

@idasho, was thinking about 1/2" or 3/4" polyiso rigid foam insulation.... the stuff at Home Depot with the foil on one side. 1/4"- 1/8" plywood panels on top of that. Thoughts? @joaquin I'm in SLO! Hey neighbor! @darwin noted, thanks for the input. Was definitely planning on incorporating all...

Thanks IdaSHO! I'm from the central coast of CA... alabama hills was the first stop on our trip last summer :) The Sierra Nevadas are incredible. We're not too keen on doing much cold weather camping, but it would definitely be nice to have that option. Beefing up that water tank situation is...

Hey everyone, been lurking around here for a long time gleaning inspiration and information from all of you guys for my own build. Been meaning to put a thread together for it for a while now, and finally getting around to it. First off, just want to say a huge thanks to sarconcepts (Bullet...
