    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

I wanted to run a kilby setup, but they don't make a bracket for the 12 valves. The 24 valve they do, not sure why the 12er's got omitted. I would LOVE to have an engine-driven compressor, mainly because the electric ones don't flow enough CFM. The Oasis ones do, but they are upwards of a...

    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

So it's been a while, and lots of work done. Nothing really "expedition" yet about it, but at least the drivetrain is solid. 1. The axles got full rebuilds with 3.73 gears. An ARB is for sure going in the front, not sure about the rear yet. Contemplating between a limited slip or another...

    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

This frame is boxed from the front, until about 2' behind the cab. Then it's C-channel from there back. Not sure why they stopped there, as that seems like a critical point on the truck. I may go with new spring perches, if I decide to pick up the dana 70 that's a few miles from my house...

I see Kore doesn't even taylor to the 2nd gen's all that much. The recon is about as far up the line as you can go. This is all on a '98, too. Things are a little bit different than a 3rd gen. It would have been nice to have a flat spring perch. Not sure why they don't, as I can't think of...

    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

There are some options, but that doesn't mean you can get rid of a block completely. The rear spring perch has a slight curve to it, meaning it's not flat. So you have to run some fashion of a block or thick shim. I looked all over SJ's website for install instructions for those leaf springs...

The carli suspension setup seems to be geared towards high-speed, high-action movement. I find nothing wrong with that, but it does cost more to "effectively" utilize a vehicle's max and minimum suspension movement. I would love to have their dominator 3.0 system, as I bet it is like riding on...

    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

Those are very nice control arms. If I was going to go all-out, best-of-the-best, I would have gone with those for short arms. I want to eventually run long arms, but with 5" of suspension lift. With the length of this truck, I think the higher altitude will help me (hopefully) from getting...

    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

For the price they do. I liked the fact that they custom-make arms to any height (the short arms top out at 8", I believe). Both upper and lower control arms on the driver's side are shot on mine. The lower one on that side is bent. So replacement bushings were out of the question. They are...

    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

That's true frome what I can see. The 78-79's have more room on the driver's side tube for the coil buckets/control arm mounts. I'm still trying to figure out the best plan on attack for the front. I had planned to use the HP60, but they are scarce (and $$$ at that). I may end up sticking...

    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

Well, not much in the way of updates. My 205 rebuild kit and twin stick rails should be here tomorrow. Since it's a ford case, there's not a lot of options when it comes to twin-sticking. I had to have them machined by Off Road Design, but at least it was able to be done. I now have to...

    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

Updates, yay. First, I got the bumper on. I measured and it looks tight, but do-able for a winch. It will be getting different mounting brackets, and a fairlead of some sort; but probably not until this summer. I've got some Hella 500FF couresty of a wal mart gift card. They look pretty...

    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

Being a flat color, cleanliness isn't as important. If I was back in GA, I would say it is as the clay is a nightmare to get off (being from FL, I'm sure you know). I figure a simple and inexpensive paint job is better than a $1500 one like I was looking at for an expedition vehicle. I'm not...

    1998 Dodge Ram 3500 build

Yep, you were the one I was thinking of. I see yours is an 01.5, having rear discs. I like that better, as the dually axles with single wheels and drums are more noticeable. I like the bed that you built, as the base of it would be a great place to start for me. Still up in the air about it...

Thanks for the compliments. The standard bed should do me fine, as I haven't seen too many flat beds yet that aren't more farm and ranch-style. If I do go that route, it will be a custom one though. Still thinking that part out. Rot Box, the 5-sp. was definetly worth it. I think I'm into...

Just joined the site after reading post after post for a while now. Great site, should have joined up earlier! Anyway, the truck started life pretty hard, but has come a long way. There's a guy on here that gave me some pretty good ideas on what to do with it (I think it was project redux?)...
