    Anderson connectors: Crimp vs solder?

I've both soldered and crimped Anderson connectors and have had much better results crimping. Soldering is difficult on the smaller 15 and 30A connectors in particular because there is limited clearance in the housing for any kind of excess solder on the pin.

    Favorite Swiss Army Knives?

I'm a big fan of the Bantam Alox, I carry one almost everywhere I go. They are small enough to disappear in a pocket, have a minimalist but usable set of features, and are cheap enough that if I loose one I'm not bummed. I didn't write this review, but it gives the Bantam Alox 20/20...

    Connectors for interior systems

Another +1 for Anderson connectors and the proper crimper. I use these in multiple places on my truck and have never had a failure. Make sure you get real Anderson connectors and not the knock offs that are available.

Lots of Lakes in the High Sierra - El Dorado BDT

Great pictures! Those T-markers (is that what they are called) are really fun to run into out in the middle of nowhere. It's incredible to think about the wagon trains making their way through that area 170 years ago. Here are two more farther East on the trail. And the sign at the end of...

Lots of Lakes in the High Sierra - El Dorado BDT

@OTG_1, great trip write up! I've been to Blue Lakes many times and have explored the other lakes in that area, but have never been to Burnside Lake or Hawkins Peak, and after seeing your photos I'm motivated to go. There's a promising looking campsite at the very end of the road in Indian...

where are the Porsche cayenne expo builds?

A friend of a friend brought a 2016 Cayenne diesel on our trip to the White Rim Trail last Fall. We also took it on Fins N' Things and I was really impressed with how well it did, it definitely received a lot of double takes from people we ran into.

    FRS Radio Mounted Outside Vehicle?

Are you specifically only looking for FRS, or also open to GMRS? Midland makes multiple models with separate antennas, at it appears that at least some of them are FCC certified. Other companies such as Rugged Radios make similar units, I don't know if they are FCC certified or not.

    Refillable 1 Lb Propane Bottles

Sports Basement (an outdoor chain in CA) sells these bottles for ~$12 with lifetime free refills if you are a member. Technically I guess its not a refill since you get a different filled bottle each time, similar to a 20g propane bottle exchange. I have three that I've used for about 4 years...

    Vagabond Outdoors Drifter

+1 This would introduce considerable legal risk for both the person picking up the camper and also the building owner, unless the building owner has permission from Phil to release the campers.

Will an ARB dual compressor work with a check valve?

As long as the compressor has a pressure switch to turn it off a set pressure then you should be fine.

    Edgestar/Whynter fridge tie down brackets

A friend and I both have Edgestars that are ~15 years old and still running just fine, these seem to be amazingly reliable. The only issue I had is that the plastic hinges broke, I replaced them with stainless parts.

Better brands and places to get recovery equipment (shackles, etc.)?

I've had very good experiences with ASR (https://www.asroffroad.com/). Very high quality products.

    Quality gloves

+1 to ITTOG's question about what type of gloves, but to kick things off... I really like CLC Contractor XC gloves as a general multi-use option. These provide good dexterity and hold up well over time. I've had multiple pairs and eventually the fingers tend to split open but only after...

    2019 Winnebago Revel

Preventing water ingestion is only one use of a snorkel. In many cases people install them to reduce the amount of dust ingested into the engine. That may have been their goal, or perhaps they just like the look.

Toyo Open Country AT3 - 34/10.50/17 - anyone running them?

The specs of the 34X10.50R17LT are interesting when compared to the LT255/80R17s I have on my Tacoma. 34s are only .4" taller, probably less when loaded 34s are .6" wider 34s have a little less tread depth (15.16/16 vs 16.3/16) 34s are D rated (vs E for the 255s) 34s weigh 5lbs more (+10%)...

    Suggestions for camping/cooking gear please

I've been using a Plano box with a DIY seal for a few years and am happy with it. Inside I have a wood tray to organize some of my smaller cooking implements. More info at https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/kitchen-kit-chuck-box.21268/page-64#post-2809775

Do we really need a spare?

I carry a spare, because I'll get a flat the very first time I decide to leave the spare at home. Seriously though, in 20+ years of wheeling I've seen 3 flats. Two were easily plugged, one was a large branch through a sidewall and the tire was toast. Tires are the most important part of the...

    Camp Stove Carry Bag

Is the Everest 2x the same width as the older Everest? I carry my Everest in a case from Bass pro shops, it's padded and has held up well so far. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-padded-propane-stove-carry-case

    DIY soft shackle

I just made a set of 10" and 15" loop soft shackles out of 7/16" Amsteel Blue. The rope was purchased from Dutchware, I'll try to remember to post some pictures. I basically followed the design of a Factor 55 shackle I already own, with some adjustments to the length of the burry in the middle...
