Rivian R1S video review: what was the "most remote point" in the 48 states that they visited?

Just curious to understand range with the Rivian, or any EV off-road. I've found myself needing to carry gas in northern Nevada, and eastern Oregon, so, I'm curious where they went with the Rivian that was the most remote place in the lower 48 that they were able to get there and back on a charge.

2023 Sequoia Limited TRD Offroad Build

I don't really understand the Sequoia dimensions, according to the Toyota specs, total cargo volume behind the front seats, all backs folded flat, is exactly the same as the 5th gen 4runner. What am I missing? :/ The truck is longer, but, where does all that room go that might be useful in an...

4Runner Rear Bumper & Tire Carrier

I've got a 5th gen 4R, and have often thought about a bumper mounted swing-out spare tire option. Having come from the world of Jeeps, it seems like a natural thing. So far, I've found having a second spare is more important on long trips through rocky terrain.

Build a 100/200, do I care about adding lockers?

Thanks! All good info. I've been watching loads of videos. :) I've only had one truck with lockers, most of my Jeeps were open diffs and I managed to make it through most trails I wanted to go on. Now to focus on finding the right truck. Thanks everyone!

    40 Guy builds a 100 Series

Really appreciate the detailed photos and descriptions of all the work you've done on your 100. I don't know that I'd ever have the patience to do even 20% of what you've done, especially the roof rack, but the effort and skill clearly shows in your work. Thanks for sharing!

Build a 100/200, do I care about adding lockers?

Finally have the budget to buy a Land Cruiser, and make a few off road-worthy modifications. Mostly looking at FJ100/200 simply because of age and mileage, V8, and modern comfort. I spend a fair amount of time exploring the desert, so, it's a long drive to where I'm going. I'll explore...

    Is a 200k Gen 2 worth buying?

Cool, that's pretty much what I was thinking too. I almost never see an SR show up for sale, so, was thinking of the LS.

    Is a 200k Gen 2 worth buying?

Yep yep, I definitely choose vehicles with solid service history over ones without. Agree that age is the factor here. Good points about the SR vs LS and what people think they're worth. Though, something to note, most vehicles on Craigslist are fantasy pricing.

    Is a 200k Gen 2 worth buying?

Fair enough. I'm not really asking about mileage I guess, just what are the weak points. Good to know about the heater core. I had an 89 Suburban that was my burning man vehicle for years, had to bypass the heater core during a trip. Replacing it required removing almost everything under the...

    Is a 200k Gen 2 worth buying?

Yeah, that kind of goes without saying, however, there are some cars I wouldn't buy with 200k miles, and some I would. For example, I bought an 89 BMW 325is with 240k miles, and drove it another 50k without any major repairs. Sold it to a friend, and he put another 50k on it before it needed...

    Is a 200k Gen 2 worth buying?

So, I missed out on the Gen 1 that I was looking at. :( After I did all that research, I'm totally sold on the Monty. Looking at this one: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/cto/d/capitola-mitsubishi-montero-ls-for-sale/6871420054.html 200k miles. The ad seems to say it's had some basic...

1996 Land Rover Disco with om617.952 Mercedes Diesel Engine $7000

Oh that's interesting. I'll have to do some research. Otherwise, yeah, my son is in WA, so, there's always that...:)

1996 Land Rover Disco with om617.952 Mercedes Diesel Engine $7000

I'm guessing that will be a tough one to get the CA smog referee to approve. Too bad, I think that's a great combo and I'd buy it from you in a second if I thought I could register it. Anyone in a smog exempt part of NV want to let me use their address? :P

    Found a Gen 1 Monty...what am I getting into...:)

Thanks! Yeah, I found a detailed description of the rope method, and the tools that are needed. Sounds tedious, but not hard. I've done a fair amount of engine work, from complete rebuilds to the heads/head gaskets on a friends' Suburban 350 last year. The only things I've never taken apart...

    Found a Gen 1 Monty...what am I getting into...:)

Thanks for the info everyone! Appreciate the links for maintenance and ARB units. I'm definitely going to start with the deferred maintenance, and I appreciate the heads up on the valve stem seals. I like the older trucks for simplicity sake. From what I understand, the timing belt has been...

    Found a Gen 1 Monty...what am I getting into...:)

Yeah, I've never seen many. I don't think this one comes with the rear LSD, was looking at ARB lockers, but they don't seem to have anything for the 1990 Gen 1. While I've driven a lot of open-diff Jeeps all over the place, there are a few places I've gotten stuck that I'd prefer not to in the...

    Found a Gen 1 Monty...what am I getting into...:)

So, I have a thing for boxy practical trucks that aren't Land Rovers. Sold my square body Suburban 3/4 ton to a friend, and promptly found a Gen 1 Montero. It's all there with 200k, runs, pretty basic. I just plan to drive it on dirt roads to get to places I want to photograph. Looking around it...

    Series 100 research

Yeah, me too. I'm just out exploring, in another era I'd be a prospector with a mule. Yeah, I had an old CJ7 before that, stock all the way with open diffs. Never got stuck. Mostly just cautious too though!
