Best way to carry dog food?

It appears to be a Gamma Vittles Vault Airtight SoftStore. Ours is a 30 pound capacity but it looks like they might come in other sizes too. We like it a lot. We buy pricey, quality dry food that has a strong smell. This thing keeps the food fresh and the smell in. :) When we travel we...

Best way to carry dog food?

We have a heavy nylon bag that has a plastic liner and a screw-down lid, from the pet section at the closing Zellers here. No smell from the kibbles, reduces in size as it gets used. Not bad at all.

    rise of the phablet

For my next trick I am seriously considering rooting my phone (Note 2) so that I can install Ubuntu Linux on it as a dual-boot option. That will take care of the "is it a computer or a phone" issue. And should address the use/create content issue. Phone that runs apps or computer that make...

    rise of the phablet

2 years ago I got a Dell Streak. It had a 5" screen and I was mocked mercilessly. I seldom use my phone to talk on so a micro-tablet as they were referred to then was *perfect* for me. Everyone laughed until they saw movies & netflix on it. :) Many of the people who - way back then - mocked...

    Nemo Helio Pressure Shower

My shower setup is a pepsi keg (extra from my homebrew stuff) with a schrader valve for the air inlet (can use any normal air input - compressor, foot pump, etc) and a sink sprayer with extra hose on the output. Heat water, dump it in, pump it up and enjoy. Doubt I have $50 into it and it's...

    Cellular Repeaters

I'm in a cell-hole myself at home and will be picking up a cell repeater next year, with thoughts of bringing it with us on trips, so this thread will be watched closely. :) Currently looking at something like this...

Thanks. Too bad - this is a neat one. The Jumping Jack is nice but I'm not sure I like it as much. Now to break the news to the boss... :0

    Good A/T for snow?

I have a Jeep JK Unlimited with the biggest Duratracs (basically 35x12.5) At 10 PSI or less I've never found snow too deep. Here on the east coast I've never encountered true powder but I've got to say that on the stock rims I can go down to any crazy-low PSI (haven't removed the stem cores...

    An Ultralight Canoe

How about 10 pounds? Or some of the 20-30 pound SnowShoe canoe series cab hold 400-600 pounds. http://gaboats.com/boats/ Jamie

    Lifted Subaru

If it's lifted to make it more usable I'm all for it. Sure beats the hell out of a "hummer" for *any* reason. LOL

Synthetic winch line vs. metal winch line??

Might not affect those in the sun belt but where I live it can snow for 1/2 the year. Worse, we get lots of temp swings where it will warm up and get wet, then freeze. This is a nuisance with wire rope, but the ice isn't a total problem. I imagine with synthetic here it would end up a frozen...

Air pressure in BFG AT ko's

The only way to know for sure is to chalk test for the expected load. Find a parking lot and run a thick, wide, chalk line across each tire. Get it and drive slowly straight ahead a few rotations and take a look at the pattern in the chalk. You want an even wear right across the tread.

    Tentrax tire pressure

I'd suggest the same for the tow rig - chalk test the tires at the load you will be running in the trailer.

Why isn't the Ford Ranger a popular expedition vehicle?

Our two vehicles are a Mazda B4000 4x4 (Ford Ranger with slightly different body) and a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that's lifted, on 35's, has a roof rack and an 8-foot (!) rack on it that is adorned with shovel, antenna, 30 pounds of mud, a 12k winch up front, etc etc. When we travel we take the...

Why isn't the Ford Ranger a popular expedition vehicle?

We have an '08 as my wife's truck. Apart from nothing in the aftermarket for it for suspension etc, the only real down side is the &^%$&% fuel consumption. I think full-size trucks get better mileage... Jamie

    Cutting boards for camp kitchens

Wood in general is antibacterial (grass likely is too, so the bamboo would be similar in that regard) Plastics on the other hand are the opposite... Grooves just make cleanup take longer.

    An Axe - Seriously?

I always carry an axe and a shovel (actually 2 shovels). I think I have used one or the other just about every time I've gone any distance off road.
