Into the Woods I go. For 40 nights.

Part 6: Thunderstorm. There is nothing much better than experiencing thunderstorms out in the wild. Great crashing thunderstorms, sky electrified, as wind whips through forests, across savannahs, or over wide open desert. The natural violence of it all is beyond thrilling. That crashing thunder...

Into the Woods I go. For 40 nights.

Part 5: Lord of the Flies Sorry, this one is over the 10,000 character limit. The link goes to the Authors Substack page. I'll continue to share those stories that fit EP's limits. https://sarahedmonds.substack.com/p/little-lords-of-the-flies?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

Into the Woods I go. For 40 nights.

Part 4: Lying awake beneath the stars. The vast night sky arches above me, darkly clear on a cool night. Clear, but for one small cloud that has drifted over the moon, allowing the countless stars to shine more brightly. I gaze at those stars, attempting to visualize each in turn. Each as one...

"Cowboy" canvas bed roll? Good, better, best?

There is a ton of videos on youtube on how to loadout a bedroll for the environment you plan to be in. You will need some type of insulating blanket since heavy canvas by itself is not particularly warm. Depending on where and what the temp is where I'm going I'll have a base blanket...

"Cowboy" canvas bed roll? Good, better, best?

FWIW. I've probably got a couple hundred nights in a bedroll, from sleeping in the bed of my truck in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico to sleeping on the ground or on a cot in Missouri, Iowa, Colorado and Utah. They work great for what they are which is to give you a solid system to keep your...

    Better Bivvy sacks/tents?

🤣 Thanks. But, yeah, no. I made a ton of waxed canvas and natural canvas ones back in the beginning (apparently they are very popular on/in the islands). All word of mouth and custom. Most went to the early adventure riders, Ural clubs and island Jeep clubs. Sold a few at OE events but, all of...

    Better Bivvy sacks/tents?

I'm a total bedroll fan. I made a heavy canvas one years ago and keep it loaded with a couple of wool blankets and a pillow. I just used it again in Moab last week. Used it in the truck with a sleeping bag and in my tent on a cot. Keeps everything clean and neat.

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

June 2007: Approx 17 years ago, my girlfriend (now wife) and I went out to this unheard of place called Moab to explore and camp in our Safari/Overland/Adventure Suzuki Samurai. Prior to heading out I made (3) stamped medallions. While out camping each night, I hid a medallion under a pile of...

    Better Bivvy sacks/tents?

Not a fan of bivies for reasons already listed and experienced but, gotta ask....sleep in your vehicle? If your just needing a couple hours of dry, wind and sand proof shelter can you just carve out a portion of your vehicle for a pad and sleeping bag?
