1980's Ford ranger- I need info

Rangers have always been a solid platform. That being said, the best years of these trucks were '86-97 (fuel injected engines with TTB suspension) with the '93-97's being the highest level of refinement while still maintaining off-road capability in stock form. The '93-'97s were available with...

    Earthroamer

I wouldn't count on hearing back from them any time soon. The latest word I received, which was direct from a former ER employee, is that they are done.

    Earthroamer: new tire/wheel/suspension

You have made some really good points about these upgrades. It's obivious from the pictures that the centerline of the tires has been moved outward from their stock position, especially in the rear (leaving the disc brakes exposed to potential damage). Now making a vehicle wider after adding...

    ready welder

I looked at both the Ready Welder and the Premier Power Welder systems. My problem with the Premier Power Welder system is that it is tied to my truck's electrical system. Now someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that it is good practice to disconnect the battery ground lead of a...

How 'bad' is it to use the transfer case for front-wheel-drive?

I bent my rear drive shaft once and drove the truck home 200 miles @ 60+mph in FWD. This was with the stock chain driven transfer case. It got very hot and understandably so. However, it did get me home. I now have an Atlas transfercase, and I would feel more comfortable doing that with the...

    Big or little bumpers

I would vote for light weight. A bumper constructed properly can be both light and strong. I have a tube bumper up front with a winch mount on it. It has been slammed into MANY rocks. It has not even dented the tube yet, although it will need a repaint this summer.

    Any experience with AIMS inverters?

I doing research for my expedition trailer project and a few of the online retailers are selling AIMS inverters. Is this a good brand? I want to buy a pure sine wave unit in the 1800 watt range. The other unit I'm considering is the Xantrex PROsine 1800.

    Random RIG Shots

Here is a picture of mine from about a year and a half ago. Its gone through some more modifications since for rock crawling, but after meeting Scott Brady last sept and going out to Moab last week, I'm ready for a bit of a shift towards expedition travel. I'm working on plans for a custom...
