Best new stock 1/2 ton truck for overloading

My current truck is a 2016 F150 FX4 with rear e locker, 93k miles. Price doesn't really matter but the new ones are sooo expensive and they don't do a lot more than my current truck. I can put 10k into my truck and be good to go I think. I was a little wary about the mileage but there are...

Best new stock 1/2 ton truck for overloading

I am in the market for a new truck. Prob 1/2 ton. 95% for daily commuting and then fishing, hunting and camping when possible. I would rather keep suspension stock if possible. I can always put better tires on. I would like to be able to things such as Arkansas overland rout, white rim...

Will stock F150 be able to do white rim trail?

I have a 2016 F150 FX4. I am planning a trip to white rim trail next spring. I have a rear locker, good AT tires, recovery boards and chains for the tires. I will have a RTT on the bed rack. I don't want to build a truck for rock crawling and I think most people overbuild their vehicles for...

    roof crossbars for RTT

I bought a used CVT mt ranger tent and am about to mount it to my roof rack. Is there a certain distance the roof cross bars should be apart? I can't find anything on Cvt site and don't have manual. Should I divide the footprint in 1/3's to have even amounts in between and overhanging or...

How much extra fuel do you take?

How much fuel do you feel you need to not get stranded? I am talking in the US western states/desert. Since every vehicle has different mpg/consumption I suppose the best way to quantitate it would be in distance. So do you usually carry enough to get you 50 miles? 100 miles? 150? Just...

yet another house battery charging question

Yes not a house bank. They are just the car batteries. I ordered a bcdc redarc charger. Should be fine. Thanks for the replies

yet another house battery charging question

I have read most of the threads on house battery charging and dc-dc chargers and am now more confused than ever. I am looking for a basic setup. Here is where I'm at now: 2016 Ford transit 350 with HD alternator. I have 100w solar on roof charging an odyssey blue battery in the back of the...

New trailer build question about skinning sides.

ok, so if I wanted to make the doors out of aluminum to save weight, what kind of hinges would I use to mount them to the steel chasis? stainless? composite? I keep thinking of making an aluminum box to mount on the steel frame, sort of like turtlebakck does but not sure I like the idea of...

New trailer build question about skinning sides.

I would love to use aluminum for some of the box to save weight but am worried about the corrosion problem with putting dissimilar metals together. Does the adhesive provide a barrier between the two to prevent this? I don't know a lot about it but just that bolting steel and aluminum together...

New trailer build question about skinning sides.

I am in the beginning of building a camper trailer. Not much different from others already done. It is 5x8, a little bit bigger than the typical 4x6 because I have 5 kids and we bring a lot of stuff with us. We pull it with our quigley transit, and dont really need it to go rock crawling. I...

Modify or Build from Scratch? How do you like this idea?

Shortening a ttrailer lengthwise is easily doable. You couldn't pay me to try to make one narrower and the axle as well. I would start from scratch.

why are rooftop tents so expensive?

I am just starting to look in to a hardshell rtt. I just don't get it. I can buy a Yakima box for the roof for 3 or $400. make it a little bigger and stouter, add some canvas, mattress and struts and it is now $3k! I imagine the profit margin on these is crazy. maybe I am missing something.
