This is Betty, We use her mostly to haul our Airstream, haul our enclosed car trailer and load up the family for winter ski weekends. We're slowly making improvements so she looks less like an airport or church shuttle.
Having owned 3/4 pickups, F150s and a 3/4 Suburban, this van has by far...
Good questions. The topside bed has a full size mattress measuring 54” x 75”.
With the bottom swing up “kid” beds in place there is an eight inch gap in the middle. An easy solution to make this into another full size bed platform would be to either:
1) Make a simple1/4 inch plywood bridge...
A new shiny object has come along and it's time to part with my custom pickup truck camper.
I fabricated and constructed this camper from scratch during the winter of 2018 to serve as a lightweight, modern and durable camper for my 2016 Ford F150 with 5.5' bed. I've used it just twice so it...
A new project opportunity has come my way that would replace the popup camper I built a few winters ago. I never really intended to sell it, but there's always another shiny object it seems. Now faced with the prospect of selling I'm wondering what is it worth?
My original build thread on the...
I’m not sure a project is ever completely done. That’s what makes it fun. Mine surely isn’t’ but I can continue to make it better in its current state and still use it.
I’m planning to order two more of the grey cushions to 1) serve as backrests when the space is in “bench mode” and 2) fill the voids in “bed mode” so the kids have fully cushioned beds.
I didn’t plan it this way originally, but I can order a pad for the full length bed on the right that will...
Next project was finishing the convertible bed for my daughter on the ride side, then building out a similar one for my son on the right. Both use piano hinges for the flip up platform and these locking and folding legs from Amazon on the underside...
Made a bit of progress the last few nights.
First, here’s a (crummy) shot of the fantastic fan in place. For better or worse, I installed the old standard vent that this replaced really well. Getting it out wasn’t my favorite project as of late.
You can kind of see the foam insulation in the...
I’ve been watching your build. It’s looking good! You definitely have me beat on interior woodworking and buildout skills. The early frame build photos look eerily similar to mine.
I initially set out to do a regular pop top, but I thought too much about how to do it right. In the interest of...
Thanks for the kind words. While I don’t have close to the experience or time in the wild as most folks here, I like building things and this seemed like a fun project. It’s been a learning experience and I’d do some things differently if I did it again, but all in all I’m happy with it.
Honestly, I never really considered anything else. I have an uncle with half a dozen Airstream projects (no joke), and he’s put one in all of them. I figured if he likes them that much I should be happy as well.
Piano hinges aren’t waterproof. I have a piece of trim and weatherproof flap on the to do list that will keep rain and water from penetrating in storms and when left outside.
