Limited Slip Faceoff: Detroit TrueTrac vs. ARB Air Locker

Honestly this thread should be a sticky. I have been back and forth on this subject for a couple years now, unable to make a decision. the information discussed here on vehicle weight and tire size is invaluable. The solution for a light big tire’d Jeep is likely not the same for a heavy...

    Moog CC880S coils

I’ve had the cc880s springs installed for 3 years and they are holding up well. Application is E350 6L diesel with modified 8 lug D44 TTB. The factory springs were way too soft and sagged, probably more from age than miles as there was maybe 130,000 km on them when I pulled them. I was...

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

Good point, I planned to do testing to better understand the approximate trailing amps vs time and then specify a specific duration. That said the automatic algorithm seems to be doing an ok job, perhaps undercharging somewhat.

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

Quick update, did our first trip with the Orion charger installed and I am very happy. With minimal loads on the house battery and daily 20-30min trips to trailheads etc the Orion brings the battery up to full charge. DC-DC charging really shines at shallow discharges, definitively more...

Looking for source for closed cell foam

https://www.foambymail.com/minicel-type-t-foam.html https://www.foambymail.com/minicel-type-l-foam.html These are the two products that I think may be similar to what I am looking for. I guess I need to just order some samples

Looking for source for closed cell foam

We actually have a latex mattress at home and really like it. I didn’t think of it before you suggested it but unconsciously that’s probably exactly what I’m trying to recreate but thinner and lower cost. I will keep searching

Looking for source for closed cell foam

Im looking to upgrade the mattresses in my partially converted van. The existing foam seems to be low density open cell urethane. I found these sport seats at Cabelas that seem like an ideal material. Listed as softek closed cell foam...

That looks like an awesome device

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

Agree ... would only add shunt and counter if eliminating boosting/starting current from house battery

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

Totally agree. Good to hear the smartgauge is highly regarded. my list of loads is short so I have a pretty solid handle on energy usage. I migrated epsar diesel space and engine heaters to the house battery. Other loads are a dometic chest fridge/freezer, led space lighting, cabin vent fan and...

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

Again if I had things to do over .... I use a Smartgauge to monitor SOC of the house batt and voltage on the chassis. Our first season we didn’t have a house batt, so the smart gauge was ideal for monitoring chassis batteries without a starting current sized shunt installed. It’s seems to do an...

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

Orion Smart Tr and clamp meter (been on the fence about needing one of these for years) on order. Thanks to everyone for input.

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

Agreed, my intent was >90min. A typical travel day is 4-6 hrs road time. Typical DOD is probably <20% (20Ah). I like the clamp idea ... I’m going to check that out.

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

... I installed the ACR several years ago at the time there wasnt a lot of dc-dc charging options readily available (it was a time pressure build) so I went with the ACR. There were lots of factors rolled up in this battery chemistry selection and so on. It was a compromise. If I was starting...

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

@dreadlocks I installed the app and loaded a demo product, wow I had no idea the app would offer demo functionality gone are the days of trying to decipher a manual and specs. For example the engine/alternator detection voltage is totally variable between 8V and 17V. All charge parameters are...

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

Ok thanks for confirming I can change parameters, that’s a relief! I did miss the “smart” from my post (Orion Tr 12/12-30A dc-dc charger). I admit I have found victron’s product naming a bit confusing, the dc dc power supplies appear visually similar and can be used as simple chargers but...

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

I understand where you are coming from, I asked for feedback and keeping things simple is a good strategy ... I have a ML-ACR 7622 with the remote combine switch. My house battery is a firefly (AGM) and supposedly capable of high charge acceptance, i don’t have a shunt to prove but I don’t see a...

Victron Blue Smart Charger (Not solar)

Thanks for posting this great knowing that that the parameters are fully configurable. I am looking to order a Orion Tr 12/12-30A dc-dc charger. My house battery is currently charged via blue sea ACR, however this has lead to charging issues short life of the house battery discussed in other...
