I've not seen them in action in brutal cold so I can't say for sure but I think it would depend a bit on how you installed the unit. If the exchanger matrix is really close to the wall opening then the warm moist exhaust air will freeze it for sure & this is a common issue with residential HRV...

I use the EGo version. No reason I can see why it can't be rotated +- 45 degrees.
