Just bringing up an old thread, I'm interested in the Braid Beadlock B system.
I don't understand and I can't find the answer. Do these pointed screws just grip into the rubber to stop the tyre rotating on the wheel by adding friction or does the screw trap the bead between the screw and an...
Hehe. How difficult was to wire that light in Dave? ;)
Bloody sceptics.
Not hard. Just a standard 5mm LED in a housing I machined it also holds a light pipe so it looks factory when off. It just runs off the power through a resistor when the diff is powered.
Hahahaha, sorry, I'm fitting a Harrop front locker and thought it would be a nice touch to make use of the console schematic and fit a 4th LED.
They never came with a front locker. Porsche/VW played with the idea and made 6 prototypes, the idea was abandoned for undisclosed reasons. It must...
It's been a long time coming, but there is now a front locking diff for our cars. Harrop have sent me pictures of my front diff housing fitted with a prototype elocker. I should have this in my hands this week or early next and detail the wiring.
These will be a production part available to...
I originally asked the dealer if they can do it who said it was not possible, it would be possible for them to fit the diff, fit a wiring patch and activate the software already loaded in the cars. You can buy a diff with the locking mechanism new or second hand there are a couple of options for...
I pulled the rear diff control motor apart today, it's a nice design. The motor is a high torque 12Vdc motor - not a stepper motor. it is probably controlled by a PWM controller to ramp up and slow down the motor speed.
The alloy housing doesn't contain any gear reduction it is 1:1, the gear is...
This is the guy who does the factory activation - dave(at)racecarsforyou.com
I don't know much about it, I only just found out about him and just started talking with him on email.
Agreed, I'm not sure why they made it back to front to the conventional sequence. I have tried to work out if there is a good reason for it, the only reason I can think of is that they don't want people accidentally driving on road with it in 4wd and stressing the drive train.
They can be made...
In the original design you have to progress the level of off-road capability in this order.
Step 0. On road
Step 1. Low range
Step 2. Low range + Centre diff lock
Step 3. Low range + Centre diff lock + Rear diff lock
I "hope" to make a controller that will allow the rear diff to be partially or...
I'd like to see that article if you find it, sounds interesting.
You should be able to fit the rear locker and have an independent controller like I'm doing, you just have to match the ratios from the front diff. We are working on front diff locks too but it's very early days at the moment, we...
This is the centre diff
The rear diff should be able to be locked when the centre diff is in high range if the rear diff controller is independent and does not talk to, or is controlled by, the Porsche smarts so the factory ECU doesn't know the rear is locked or partially locked. I think the...
I measured up today.
The existing tyres are 295/35/21 on 21x10 55ET wheels. The inside of the tyre sits 25mm inside the outer most point of the upper control arm.
For the tyre to clear the upper control arm ball joint I will need to run a narrower tyre on a 8j18 35ET wheel (that's the...
Definitely mud tyres for me, because it's less of a compromise. They are not a road tyre. If you want a good road tyre, buy a road tyre. I haven't had a set of of off road tyres that were advertised as >70% off-road that weren't like Teflon on a wet road and tons of slip on dry bitumen. Rather...
I'm working on measuring this up this weekend. IMO tyres are the single best upgrade you can do, on or off road.
The taller the better and always a mud terrain for me.
Some guys are fitting 33/12.5/(17/18) with a small amount of modification and no lift, I have had a quick look at my car and...
If we're talking about Cayenne 955 & 957 models
If you find one with the locking rear diff it will be either Advanced Off-road Technology or have PSM+ both come with extra options that are worthwhile. The AOT has useless bash plates, except for the rockrails which seem good and stronger...
