Looking for my options for trailer door hinges and latches. The trailer I’m building will have a 28”x40” swing out door on the back with a fold up work top on it. And one swing out 26”x24” door on each side up front for the fridge access and controls. I’m leaning towards these but looking for...
Decided to go with a 4’x6.5’x28” main box for the trailer I added a 2” extension on the rear frame rails and then a bumper. I got the main frame partially welded and then decided to determine how I would insure the trailer had a 25” tongue height. So I tacked on the spring hangers and took...
Just about finished with my frame and suspension. What thickness of Aluminum have you guys had luck with. I’d like to keep it fairly thin but don’t want it to fend and ding too easily. It isn’t structural at all. It will be just to skin the walls, floor and roof of the box itself. I was thinking...
So I have started my trailer frame build and have everything figured out except how I want to build the compartment doors and the rear hatch. How are you guys building your doors and sealing them for weather. I have some ideas in mind but would love to see some examples.
thanks for the help.
Went out and took some measurements using my wheels and tires, the Jeep tj etc. have settled on on doing a 61” wide hub face measurement on the axle. That will have it track within the TJ’s path. Going with a 4’x6.5’ box and 10” fenders with platforms / rock rails front and rear of the wheel...
Sounds familiar. I had an old military M-100 1/4 ton trailer for a few years. But felt bad about wanting to cut it up so I sold it to fund my build. I’ve got my steel for the tongue and frame. Plenty to do any size I want. I’m going to run the 2.5x2.5x.25 wall front to rear so it can have a bike...
I appreciate the reply. Yes I do plan on trying to make it track within the same track width but have to pick one or the other because the Jeeps are different. I guess I’m mainly worried about picking a box length. Don’t want to go too small. My rtt is basically 4x6.
I’m ready to build my first offroad overland trailer. I will be pulling it either behind my Jeep TJ or Jeep JL wranglers. I had a old M-100 military trailer but decided to build a new trailer from scratch more purpose built instead of destroying a really nice old trailer to make it work. Anyway...
I just ordered a Viper alarms little stand alone GPS tracker to install on my trailer for a little piece of mind. I hate crooks. It always bothers me when leaving the trailer at the camp site. So I figured this was relatively cheap insurance. And at around $8 a month for the service after the...
If the welder does not know how to change the settings on his machine to weld .120 wall. I wouldn’t trust him to weld anything. It would take me about ten seconds or less to make the changes
Yeah I really don’t want to run the 2.5x2.5 .250 wall front to back as it’s roughly 7 pounds per foot but I was thinking that it is really only about a 10 foot stick. So a total of 70#. And that would give me a four foot tongue in front of the trailer box. Then I could make an extendable 2”...
So I bought an old M100 as a base. It came with a new 3500# dexter axle with 5on4.5” hubs and electric brakes. Brackets for a RTT that had been purchased. And a few other little odds and ends. With a title already. Got it all for under $400. The tub is in great shape as far as dents etc. it...
