Family Hauler Overland: Jeep vs Nissan

Thanks for your opinions so far. If I could afford it, I’d think I’d spring for the new Sequoia or wait to see what new powertrain options they come up with for the GX and the 4Runner, but I really like the Nissan even if it’s pretty simple by comparison and may not ever get the aftermarket...

I love JonDZ Adventuring. Amazing to see where they get in AWD vehicles.

    Off road minivan

Hi folks, I am considering selling my Mitsubishi Montero and Mazda CX-5 to get what some people refer to as the mini van of Jeeps, the Grand Cherokee L. I like Jeeps reputation for off road capability, and the interiors are quite luxurious. However, I am not familiar with the Quadratrac I...

Family Hauler Overland: Jeep vs Nissan

Hi folks. If any of you make it over to the Mitsubishi section of this forum you’ll see I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero. While there are some things about it I wish they’d done differently when they made this vehicle, it’s probably my favorite I’ve owned to date. It’s incredibly capable, even...

    97 Montero LS Build

I also replaced the rear sway bar linkage that had been rattling around since I bought the truck. So nice to go over bumps and not hear anything a second afterwards.

    97 Montero LS Build

I finally got around to some rust abatement this weekend. Did all the cleaning the past couple days, and I'll apply the POR15 tomorrow after work. Not the most fun I've had, laying under the truck holding the wire wheel to the frame and trailing arm, but it feels good to get this stuff off.

Awesome, I'm going to pick one of these up. Beats the $300 on an ARB.

    97 Montero LS Build

After the holidays when CA got some snow, I took the Monty up to Angeles Crest to see if I could test out the Falkens driving in some powder. I managed to find maybe 500 ft of road that hadn't been plowed yet almost all the way up to Newcomb's Ranch and drove it there and she did great. Haven't...

    97 Montero LS Build

After getting that initial maintenance done, I guess I was feeling confident because I drove the Monty out to Arizona for the holidays. My brother in law who's a career mechanic, took a look at everything and helped me find some coolant hoses that needed to be replaced. Then we drove it up to...

    97 Montero LS Build

Let's definitely see some pics! I found another couple of threads on here where people made some good ones. I have some wood working tools, so I might tackle that project just before summer camping season.

    97 Montero LS Build

First things first, I got a major service done on her before throwing on some new tires. I took her to Miyaki Motorsports and had to wait about a month for an appointment. Got the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, cam/crank seals & position sensors, crank bolt, plugs, wires and valve cover...

    97 Montero LS Build

Hey all, Fairly new to EP but I wanted to start a thread for my build. I've used the forums for lots of how-tos and information gathering as I got ready to buy my first Montero. So now that I have one I thought I might help add to the knowledge base with my build. I bought her Nov 2020 after...

Montero Alarm system removal, Gen 2.5

I will look into that, thank you. Most of my issues with the locks went away after taking out the alarm, but it still re-locks the car when pressing unlock on the door control for too long.

Montero Alarm system removal, Gen 2.5

For future readers of this post, on the off-chance you make it all the way to this comment, please note that there is another guide in the Mitsubishi Monteros USA / SoCal group that is a great cross reference for this guide. On US trucks, the original factory wiring harnesses should still be...
