“Big Bear” 1979 F700 Firetruck Build

Some updates on the truck: Narrowed the color options down to Desert Tan and Cement Grey. I’ve sold the motor, trans, service bed, pumps, gas tank, gauge cluster, and bench seat. Next is to chop the frame and get it ready for paint. As well as finding a 7.3L powerstroke and F450 axles to use

Drained the old oil out today. It looked good, no flakes, no crud, no pieces of gasksts. It was definitely some thicker stuff, not some 10w-30 lol. I also flushed and refilled the power steering reservoir with new fluid. Flushed the radiator and filled it up with 50/50. Took me about 2 hours to...

1 hour of work and the interior is cleaning up nicely. The truck had an old vinyl flooring that ripped apart almost instantly due to being sun faded and having chemicals spill on it. The floor is 100% rust free. I think I’m going to lay down some dynamat and put a nice carpet over that to...

I was wondering what everybody’s thoughts were on the best wood to use? I’m going to use different types, as I’ll need a stronger wood in one area, lighter in another, and water resistant in another… I’ll also be using angled aluminum for bracing in some areas.

They put them in 2 1/2 ton “deuces.” I believe the 5 tons had bigger engines. The gearing for a deuce is very similar to my current gearing in the F700 ( 6.72:1 Vs. 6.50:1 ) Top speed is probably going to be around 60-65 regardless of what engine I do
