Thats a pretty kool stout trailer to start with!
One way to get a seal would be to use 90 deg. angle for the doors so you have a flat / flange to use weather stripping to seal up against the squre tubing. Eithe way you need a flat on flat to have a good seal.
I finally took the time to finish the video of our first trip to CO using the trailer. I liteally had the trailer done 2 days before we left. We had a great time exploring some new areas such as the Poudre river / canyon area. Backcountry hiking in RMNP never gets old chasing trout...
Thanks a lot. I will check out your build!
With 2 days to spare I finished the trailer just before we planned to leave in our vacation. Had 3 friends help me out the tent on the rack then took it out for a test drive. She towed great. 75mph no problem as long as the roads are smooth...
Thanks I appreciate it 👍
Nice to finally have it all assembled and see it come together. I’m liking how it looks. I’m on the last steps now which is the wiring. My least favorite part of any project
Haven’t posted in awhile… been so busy working on the trailer as a summer vacation is approaching quickly that we want to use this on. Has to slightly change my plans as I just wrapped up all my fab work and was going to get everything stripped and then powder coat the frame… but I called the...
This week it was time to make some fenders for the trailer. The originals were pretty banged up and wouldn't clear the 35" tires. I had a quote for a tube fender that I did up in CAD...but those came in at around 1k so I decided to keep it simple with some sheet metal fenders....but without...
I couldn't be more excited to say the lid build is done! This has been a big project and I've been working on this one for a while.
I ended up using .032 aluminum to skin the outside of it. The reason of going with that thickness is because I rented an aluminum siding brake which has a...
Thank you I appreciate it. I am surprised the spring mounts are designed to be so close to each other after my research. shows they should be about 35.5" apart.
that would be very helpful. After looking more...i am quite confident the entire frame on this trailer has been replaced.
Attached is an image. Looking for 2 dimensions.
1) the leaf spring mount spacing, which should be the same as the 2 center frame rail spacing as the mounts are...
After looking at how my axle and suspension is sitting...it doesn't seem quite right. I think someone replaced one or two of the frame rails (that run side to side) and the spacing is off. My leaf spring shackle angles don't look correct which was my first sign.
Can someone please tell me...
The sheet material for the lid didn't show up last weekend so I was able to get the suspension installed and mocked up. I was curious to see how the new 3500HD axle would fit. I did order it with electric brakes as I figured now would be the time to do so. I ordered the axle at 53.5" as I...
I took a break on the lid as I was waiting for the sheetmetal to finish it off. The tongue box just showed up. I ordered it a while ago but they were out and had to build it and I was fine waiting for it. I spec'd this one out as I thought it was the ideal size and gave me enough room for the...
Thought I would share the CAD model of the lid I did. Doing this helped me adjust the design and bring the weight down. 1st iteration was made with 1" square thick wall tubing and the lid was 110 lbs lol. Was able to make adjustments and bring the weight down to 55 lbs without any sheet...
I have been busy the last few weeks on the lid. This is going to be a big / involved project and I'm not a fast worker so I know it will probably take a month realistically. I have made good progress and I wanted to share the first phase of the project rather than waiting till the lid is done...
I am not sure if the springs are ok....I am going to see about replacing them at my spring shop and see their reccomendations based on the trailer weight. Im hoping they can give me a solution for the hangers too.
Spent this past week removing the suspension and taillights. The man I bought the trailer from was interested in any parts that I didn't use so he came up on Saturday and bought the wheels, fenders, axle and the modified drop tongue that was on the trailer. That worked out great, gave me a few...
This weeks project was to straighten out the tube rails. As I am going to build a lid for the trailer I wanted a good sealing surface and these were pretty rough. Seems to be only 2 good options...Option 1: replace the rail with new metal such as welding in angle iron to recreate the rail...
I have 2 like new wheels and tires of a Jeep Rubicon I need to sell. I was told they have 1,000 miles on them. Tires are the standard BFG 285,75, 17. I was planning on using them for a trailer but I decided to go a different route. I am located in SE Michigan. Pickup only.
$300 for both.
I decided I wanted to add a pair of D ring / shackles to the back of the trailer. These will mostly be for fun, hopefully won't ever need to use them lol. I went with the cheap route from Amazon. I really couldn't see a need for spending more for these. Then I figured I would design up some...
I looked at a lot of options for a tongue jack now that the original landing leg is gone. I think the extra money for the Ark tongue jack/jockey wheel is worth it. The quality is incredible and I really wanted theirs for its adjustability. I have a small packaging window on my trailer tongue and...
