Just updating on this....I saw these units at the BC outdoor show this weekend. It's actually a very nice product from what I saw. Solid build, flip up beds (which is super handy and not all companies do this) and the price is very competitive (keep in mind these are Canadian dollars).

Consider buying one out of Spain (you're not too far away). They are generally better condition due to the drier climate.

Maybe I've missed it if you've stated against it but you should seriously consider Subaru. Our Forester and our friends' Crosstrek have been excellent and gotten us to many places. Definitely not 4wd but I'm surprised how capable they are.
