    Front wheel bearing preload

The. Manual isn't clear how to measure the front wheel bearing preload. It says to wrap a cord around the lug bolts and pull with a spring scale. The value should be 1.5 to 2.9 lb ft. Is that just the lb reading I get on the scale or do they want me to use the radius of the lug bolt circle to...

Need a bigger alternator for Fuso FG

1993. Before the change to the engine mounted vacuum pump. My 2004 FG had the engine mounted pump as well. Apparently car enthusiasts who hot their engines need an electric vacuum pump to make up for lost vacuum at an idle and some Ford trucks use an electric vacuum pump. But I haven't found...

Need a bigger alternator for Fuso FG

Has anyone replaced the alternator on a FG with something with more output? If so what did you do about the vacuum pump on the back of the original alternator? I'm thinking I could replace it with an electric pump. TIA, Tgregg

    More Fuso FG help needed

Thanks, I do have that manual and it will help getting the spacing correct. Thank goodness I bought the complete 3 volume factory workshop manual at the time I purchased the new FG 28 years ago! I think they were $350 at the time.

    More Fuso FG help needed

Thanks, that looks like a real clever 'special tool'. What size bolts are those? Am I going to need a special puller to get the drum off or does it come off easily? The brake shoes seems to be stuck in the engaged position on making the wheel very difficult to turn. Tom

Success! Need Mitsubishi Fuso FG special tool - Desparate

SUCCESS! It was relatively easy to grind the socket down to about 70mm O.D. on a bench grinder. Just needed to reduce the diameter for about the first 3/8" of the socket's length. And with a Milwaukee battery operated impact wrench it came right off. I ordered a replacement lock nut from...

    Talk About Chassis Twist

You're right, with more weight on the truck the springs will compress and depending on whether the road surface is level or tilted, the springs on one side may compress more or less than the other. . But as long as the plane of front wheels and axle are different than the rear and nothing has...

    Talk About Chassis Twist

I think that when there is no weight on the rear frame it would be less likely to twist and more likely to just pick up a wheel. The more weight placed on the chassis the more the frame will twist to follow the ground contour. At least that's been my experience with 2 FG's driven with and...

    Cook top Happiness

How high did you have the temperature setting? Don't turn it up anymore than you need to do the job. And if the water continues to boil for 10 minutes after you turn it down to 1, turn it down sooner. . Like I said it takes getting used to. It's not a propane stove that runs on diesel. It has a...

    Cook top Happiness

We have the wallas version (same as the webasto but sold at marine outlets) and we love it. It takes about 12 - 15 minutes to make coffee in a stove top 8 cup percolator. About 7 - 10 to minutes start perking and then another 5 minutes to finish. 3 minutes before it's done we turn the stove off...

    Lug nut indicator size question

My 93 FG is 1 1/2 and my 2004 is 41mm. The 1 1/2 is a standard US Budd socket for most US tractor trailers. Torque-Tight should make that size as well.

    Power Problem with FM260

I don't know about the FM engine, but my 2004 FG has a valve on the rear of the intake manifold that opens to bleed off excessive boost pressure in addition to the waste gate. If it opens too soon that might cause a problem. When my 93 FG showed a 3 mpg drop in mileage, Mitsubishi replaced the...

    High Altitude Heaters?

My Espar has worked fine at 10,000 + feet in Colorado and Wyoming for 7 years. This past year it has occasionally started to smoke when starting, but when I shut it off and restart it, it runs fine. The service department in Michigan says it's probably some carbon build up. When I send it to...

any experience with atw parabolic springs on Fuso FG?

Thanks for the feedback. . I'm generally happy with the ride quality of my stock 2004 FG on secondary roads (2 lane blacktop) that we travel on as well as forest roads, fire roads and wash board (if I air down). I have suspension seats and and the articulation is good enough to keep the wheels...
