    The Oshkosh P-19 (Project Dingo)

I’m not a complete expert on Allisons, but I can’t find any reference to an Allison 735. The RD may refer to “Rugged Duty” version. Then there’s the somewhat recent 3700SP (FMTV) and 4700 series (MTVR, HEMTT). And there’s 3500 and 4500… And there’s older Allisons with 3-digit model numbers.

Me too, currently running a set of 395/85R20 XZL2 that are rated at 168K/164L. That means 10000kg/axle at 120kph/75mph. Both way more than necessary.

    Heavy Truck Tires

    1) It’s written right on the sidewall that 395/85R20 XML have a speed rating G = 90kph ~56mph. 2) Ecohubs…resulting in a vehicle (with no low range in TC) with a crawl ratio of ~27:1 on 46” tires, equivalent to ~19:1 on standard smaller size 4wd 32” tires. How long before the torque converter or...

    Heavy Truck Tires

You have just stated the reason why ANYONE, no matter what size tires, should have both a mounted spare and second spare, if they’re going to use their “expedition vehicle” for the intended purpose. Unmounted is perfectly ok if one has 2 or 3 piece wheels and the necessary tools and skip for...

It looks like tilting the cab to get at the engine might be…interesting.

    The Oshkosh P-19 (Project Dingo)

This looks civilian, not military. It doesn’t have CTIS? According to the Wikipedia article, it carries 70gal of diesel and has a range of 262 miles. The quotient of thst division is 3.74….. Good luck, curious how it turns out.

i guess this would be "other"

I went to the website and there’s zero details on anything, including drivetrain. But there’s a picture under the bonnet showing something that looks very much like a Cummins 6BT. I wonder what transmission it has? Hopefully at least a 5 spd with synchro in 2-5 replacing the original 4 spd?

    Heavy Truck Tires

I don’t believe those sizes exist in 22.5. There’s 385/65R22.5 (common worldwide), and 425&445/65R22.5, much less common. And then there’s the issue of beadlock availability, for preventing debeading at low pressure. I’m not aware of any beadlock availability for xy.5 tires and wheels (2 piece...

    Heavy Truck Tires

First of all , obtain and carry several new O-rings that seal the rim piece to the rest of the wheel, along with a big tube of Astroglide. Make sure the O rings are specifically for your type wheel. Make sure tire is completely deflated!!! remove valve core with special tool or small needle...

    Heavy Truck Tires

It’s not as easy, although a 100kg 46” tire is hard to handle. Getting a tire on and off a 1 piece wheel inevitably involves stretching and bending the tire. An Actros would have 1 piece wheels if it has 22.5s. If 20”, from the factory they’re 3-piece. Which is a variation on “split rims” a la...

    Heavy Truck Tires

The usual tire irons, among many other metal objects (chains, pulleys, Pullpal ground anchors) in a large 100kg steel box containing 200kg of various heavy tools attached and braced to the front moose bar and frsme. Hutchinson wheels are 2 piece DOT rated bolttogether alloy wheels used...

    Heavy Truck Tires

I do suggest carrying a mounted spare tire on a wheel that will work on either axle, plus a second unmounted spare. Large 20” tires aren’t common anywhere, and if a flat isn’t fixable, the trip mutates from a fun adventure to a anxious search for another tire and fear of another severely damaged...

    35" vs 37" Tires

I see a bit of concern re load capacity vs rear axle weight in Isuzu and Mitsubishi super single threads. As Peter&Margaret often points out, 255/100R16 Michelins have good flotation and better ride than something on 18” wheels that’s also 36.5”. AND, printed on the sidewall (there’s 4 brand new...

    1994 F-150 with 4bt Cummins - $11k

Please be specific about which transmission. Is it a ZF S5-420 which was standard for F250/350? If so, which ratio set (1st gear ratio)? Or a Borg Warner? Snd what’s the diff ratio? Any traction adding diffs?

In fact, if it’s a new 79 chassis, it might even have that 4 cyl intercooled turbo diesel that has same hp & torque as the stock version 4.5L V8 diesel. I posted pictures I took of a demo in Namibia last (our) summer.
