    1991 Cummins Suburban

Howdy y'all. It's been a while. I thought I would resurrect this thread and try to update it a bit. I'd like to get back into posting here. There are some issues with the thread right now. A lot of the photo links are broken. I had pulled links from the Krawltex website. The owner...

I do :) It's been in the shop for a while getting a few things done. I'll try to post up some pictures later this week when I have time.

Sorry I never answered this. I haven't been on the forum in a while. Front: 3780 Rear 4540 Total 8320 That's a good starting point, but keep in mind, your final weight could be very different from mine. I wouldn't want to spend a bunch of money on custom springs without knowing...

    CFM related to tool choice

That's what I was thinking. A given amount of work will be done by the tool, better to have a more efficient tool. And yes, while air tools aren't essential, changing a tire with an impact gun is just plain civilized. I wouldn't think of leaving home without it.

    CFM related to tool choice

Someone tried to convince me that crappy HF air tools are a better match to onboard air compressors. A good tool would require more cfm and be hard for an onboard air compressor to keep up with. I was highly skeptical, but don't know enough about air tools to argue. Thoughts?

I think bags would be great to think about. I had them on the the 1 ton I sold two years ago. They made a world of difference when towing. Great being able to air them down when off road. I'm about to upgrade the suspension on my work truck. It's getting bags for sure, along with...

If you look through my build thread there are some pictures midway of my truck with a 4" lift and 33s. I know that's not what you are doing, but it might give you a frame of reference. The springs on the front were custom made by National. I got it weighed, told them the height they needed...

Thats a good plan and includes a lot of what I did. Crossover steering, PSC box, dont forget the braces. I didn't replace the steering column but I do have a new rag joint. If the new rag joint didn't solve the slop then I was going to get a new column. Glad the new rag joint was a big...

Cool truck. Like the seats. I could be wrong, but I believe a 2" lift would allow for 35s fine. You might even be able to fit them without a lift if you want to chop your fenders. My lift was 4" at the beginning and required a tiny bit of fender trimming to fit 37s up front. Now the...

Sounds like you've got a good plan. I'll be very interested to see what you come up with for the front suspension. Keep in mind that I found the TC rear springs to be inadequate as well. With the Suburban loaded with gear or towing even a small trailer, they were not stiff enough. My...

Good luck with the build. Happy to help with any questions. Don't forget 4bt swaps and TN Diesel for good resources. I'll try to share some of my regrets and issues that I ran into. 1. Insulate the firewall. Should have done this while the engine was pulled. The Cummins produces a...

It's going back into the shop next week to get a few things taken care of. I'm going to ask them about a custom fan shroud. New Alcan springs are going on the rear. Single battery is getting changed over to duals and the big Marine Die Hard Platinum will become the house battery. If...

Good to know. I thought it might be fine but the odd smell was/is worrisome. Been busy with work for the last couple days. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do some work on the truck this weekend. My buddy and I are planning a trip to the Canyonlands in August and there are a lot of things...

Thanks for the update Jay! Glad to see that the truck is back in shape and the thread is moving on to greener pastures. :) I too love this forum and hope that it remains a supportive and encouraging place to hang out. A while back you made a comment about having troubles with your espar...

My plan was to use a dual Flex fan setup but ditch all the wiring and thermostats that come with it and replace with better. Most of the problems I've heard about are with the wiring, not the fans themselves. Suppose I could try to find an OEM fan, but it sounds like a lot of hassle and I...

Like I said, I'm fine with the mpg's. But it's fun to play around with. Part of the joy of owning a 1st gen is fiddling with the knobs :) I'll check the heater box. So am I correct in assuming that 205 isn't really overheating? What temp thermostats would make the most sense...

Factory fan. Replaced the clutch but don't think it was HD. Radiator is a replacement aluminum. No shroud. Fan blades had to be trimmed to allow for clearance with the hood (even with a very thin hood pad.) Temps aren't the only reason I want electrics. A couple pages back I...

Sorry but I'm not following what you mean. I need to be lighter on the throttle? I drive like an old man as it is. Only time I rev it up is shifting from 4th to 5th. It is a lot easier to keep momentum when i get it up to 2000 rpm for that shift, especially if there's any kind of incline.

My EGTs really depend on driving conditions obviously. Normal driving on flat ground is about 6-700. Normal hilly driving is about 800. I can hit 1000 on mountain passes. I once hit 1100 towing a trailer over a pass. But that was before I had my starwheel and smoke screw turned down...
