Typical performance for Timbrens. Helps some what if you get 2500lb axle de rated to 1500lbs, a little softer and you get the bigger bearings. Shock absorbers can help but it’s hard to do anything that will dampen this axle. You end up trying to make do by lowering tire pressure and loading up...
A quick update. Springs have been and fitted, Mike & Geneva will be in Ushuaia tomorrow. On the off chance you need some springs in Patagonia this is the guy to go and see.
Elasticos Antonio, he has a FB page if you are interested.
Quick update. The original leaf spring pack was amended earlier in Mexico by the addition of a new leaf with a wrap. The spring with a wrap that broke is the original OEM leaf. Temporary repairs have been made to the pack so they can make their way South.
Thank you for all of your suggestions, it’s always good to know people are thinking of you when you breakdown in the middle of nowhere. What we are really looking for is a recommendation for a shop that than do the work in Rio Gallegos, we know it’s a long shot but any help appreciate.
Welding a leaf spring can be done, but it takes a specialized welder to do it right. Heating the spring can lead to softening of the leaf and failure, so controlling the environment is essential. A new leaf may be a better long term solution.
My friends Mike and Geneva have requested assistance due to a broken rear leaf spring on their truck. They are four hours north of Rio Gallegos and are having some temporary repairs made to the suspension so they can drive south.
The broken spring has a double wrap and one of the leaves with...
FWC was testing a ratchet strap hold down system a few years ago, they supplied them to dealers to test. I don’t think they were every implemented but there was no reason why they wouldn’t have worked. Just be sure to use high strength straps.
My vote would be for SoCal Teardrop. I have known the owner Gabe for at least 15 years and I really like his work, plus he an honest and kind person. The company I previously owned had his Teardrop bodies built onto our chassis and we never had an issue with his product. I haven’t kept up with...
Sharing knowledge mainly. The Military Fuel Cans are no longer available in the USA, the military water cans are available. You won’t get in trouble for owning MFC‘s just don’t try importing them.
The original military Scepter cans were removed from US civilian sale a number of years ago, they failed the CARB standard as fuel vapors escaped through the plastic. They are available in Canada. The new Scepter fuel cans available in the US are not military grade and are a completely new...
I agree that product must be packaged well, even to the point that the packaging is over built. Shipping product has always been a nightmare, and I’ve been both on the shipping end and the receiving end of things. Most of you would be shocked at the state that some products arrive at their...
The spindle shouldn’t be an issue, it’s the bearings and races that need looking into. I would disassemble the hubs and replace the bearings and races with Timken bearings and races, then make sure the bearings are well packed with grease and adjusted correctly. The vast majority of trailer...
All I’m saying is that the manufacture seems to have chosen the cheapest shipper rather than most reliable shipper. Combined with the way they packed the product the chance of damage is greater than it needed to be. We all learn from our mistakes, hopefully, but if as you say others have...
