01-07 factory NAV/Climate/Entertainment retrofit

Observer
Many of us owning '01-'07 100 Series Cruisers have voiced our displeasure for the OEM NAV/Climate Control/Entertainment System. I works OK, but after 10 or so years in the vehicle it starts to look and act a bit dated. We envy the ease with which the '98-'01 crowd can replace the factory head unit with state of the art electronics incorporating features such as Bluetooth, wireless tethering, advanced topological navigation maps, etc.

Until now, no one has offered a viable solution for "downgrading" an OEM NAV-equipped UZJ100 to manual (semi-auto) climate control knobs, and a double DIN head unit...

...That is about to change! A well respected member on Mud has taken it upon himself to find a solution for my NAV delete thread over there. The plan (which is well underway) is to map the pin connections running to the NAV MFP, to their correct counterparts on non-NAV center bezel control functions with the end result being a "factory" retrofit.

This is great news for all of us who have put a lot of time and money into our vehicles but thought we would be forever gazing at the ever-aging MFP!

Here is some background info on the project:

Pre 03 Factory NAV to Double Din, Climate Knobs Conversion?

More details can be found here:

Here is basically what is being attempted:

And changing it to this (Allowing for the use of an aftermarket head unit):

Very interested in this!! I'm planning on getting a 100 next summer and this would greatly open up the possibilities. The one thing I have always hated about the '01+ was the NAV. Great work!!
