After Seeing the substantial amount of 1st gen tundra build threads on here Ive decided to share my progress as well. Its super inspiring to see what other people have done/ are doing to their rigs.

I came from a 2nd gen 4cyl tacoma that I took across most of the lower 48 and wanted a larger truck with more power.
Like most guys here im not made of money and do things as I can. Thoughts or input are always appreciated!

This is what it looked like when I got it. 112k on the clock I had some stuff to take care of right out of the gate... maintenance like the timing belt etc. were the first things to get done.

plasti dipped the chrome on the front and rear bumper as well as the mirrors and wheels and got rid of old faded headlight housings.

Also fabbed up some bed bars for the RTT with a buddy that knows how to weld. not a lot of aftermarket rack options available for these trucks and I wanted something that sat pretty close to flush with the roof.

next up
wheels
tires
suspension --- the rust is something being addressed soon

wheels - Pro comp alloys
tires 235/85/16 falken wildpeaks - same tires I ran on the tacoma...loved the skinnies. the way they handle in the snow is amazing. they wear well handle great, and a E rated so they hold up on Maines logging roads.

suspension...rear is still stock but the front received some Toytec adjustable coilovers that are currently set to level out the truck still leaving some slight rake. Ive been down the road of "as much lift as possible" and it has only lead me to issues with a lot of other components on trucks maintenance wise so since im not rock crawling Im going with a less aggressive approach.

some rear tail light guards and a back up cam.
IMG_6799.jpeg

mounted an ARB compressor...ive had them under the hood before and wanted to try something different plus didn't know where to mount it under the hood here so im trying this out...so far really like having the hose and everything right there. also added a ram mount for an I pad.

not too shabby.

Nice! What are the backspacing on those wheels? The stance looks really good with the 235/85/16 and it looks like you've been able to keep the front mudflaps on.

backspace is 4.5 inches. here is the link!

I had no rubbing at all...they are about a 32in tire...they rubbed on a stock tacoma but not on the tundra.

How do you like the seat covers? Have the held up pretty well?

Sean
they have held up really well! the only gripe I have is that because of my job and the duty belt I have to wear for work there is some wear on the drivers side...it would be better if I had bought the neoprene ones but I didnt want to spend the money

I looked at the wet okle? Ones for a while but never ended up buying them. They looked to fit really well though.

Are those the "spacer mesh" version? I had those on my 02 with the split bench and they were pretty nice. I'm using some "Durafit" covers now that are kind of plain looking but were cheap and fit well. The only real downsides I can see to these covers is that I don't believe they are waterproof/resistant. I really want some Katzkin covers, but they are money.

I have the wet okoles and love them. Great fit, extra cush. First set lasted 12 years, just bough a second set for the front buckets. I got the lumbar support with this set, not worth the money imo just get the covers straight up.

I would recommend the wet okoles also as ive seen them on another truck! that being said im pretty happy with these! they are the mesh version but for the money I am not complaining. I do really like how the don't slip even when you slide around on the seat. they were fairly quick to arrive and fit the truck well. I have a buddy that has the neoprene cover king version of these and those are super nice as well though not quite as factory looking as the wet okoles! they were just too expensive for me.
