100 series cv boots

Little trip to main and I tore a front cv boot.

Do I get the kit and fiddle with replacing just the boot for 40 bucks?

Buy a re-manned napa assembly for 62 bucks? (After core charge)

Buy a new napa assembly for 103 bucks

Buy a genuine Toyota part for 400?

I'm reading mixed things about the napa ones. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's easier to just replace the whole thing than rebuilding it correct?

It's true aftermarket CV's have a poor reputation in the 100 series. I would re-boot the stock CV's as long as the grease inside has not been contaminated. I'm running the Napa CV's in my 100 that were installed by the previous owner. While they have held up to a little abuse so far (knock on wood) I believe they are to blame for a annoying vibration between 42 and 50 mph. If you're going to spend the money for a new shaft I would spend it on one from Toyota.

I would do what p nut said. Put a OEM one in there that will last another 150K miles and then clean and rebuild your old one for a spare.

I have never heard or seen anything good about after market CV axles. I'm fighting some horrible vibrations in my nissan maxima with cheap aftermarket CV shafts in it.

Re-boot. We see a ton of high mileage 100's here in the shop, many of which are just getting built at 150k+. It is rare to hear of CV related failures, boots only. That said I pack a spare CV on longer trips. If your sans spare, buy the OE replacement, re-boot your old one and kill two birds :D

DEFINITELY stay away from aftermarket front axle assemblies for the 100-series.

Visit ih8mud.com... excellent resource for landcruisers. =]

Thanks guys - did plenty of searching at posted at MUD as well... was just looking for a second oppinion

I found a re-manned TOYOTA assembly for $150 from a local shop that rebuilds CV's. and popped that in. I'll re-boot my OEM one as a spare.

The install was pretty straight forward... I did it in about an hour but this was the first time I had ever done this job before. Now that I've done it once I'm sure I could do it in about half that time if need be. Drove it around town and all seems fine.

as a parts manager at a dealership..go with OEM. We have customers who go through world pac and get axles for $150 vs $600 on some rigs and we have had them blow apart in less then a week sometimes.

IH8MUD members get discounts from supporting vendors. Search the 100 series forum for Sam Stewart at Lowe Toyota in Macon, GA. free shipping too. I've used him and his folks for lots of parts on my 100 series. Need to place an order for misc brake parts
