1000w and 2000w watt generators

My company has the opportunity to import a Chinese built portable generator that has nearly the same specs as the Honda EU1000 and EU2000. We are a Wholesale Electrical distributor and sell to contractors and property owners.

These would sell for a considerable discount over the Honda or Yami gensets.

I believe the 1000w would be around $600.00 and the 2000w around $800.

We are working out the details on the USA rights but hope to have something done soon.

Given this price point I would think the response would be pretty good. These will be sold manily to my existing contractor commercial base but wanted to see what you guys thought of the pricing.

This post is not an attmept to sell you guys a generator but to get some feedback. Let me know what you think.

First Specs are not quality. Second considering you can buy a EU1000 for $700 and a EU2000 for $950 why go with a chineese unit. Also are these the EU1000 or 1000i?

I would want to know quality and parts availability.

I was at a local chain store this weekend that had a Chinese inverter generator that was rated at 900W on sale for $99cdn from a regular price of $179cdn.

Its going to be pretty hard to compete with that.

<edit> I actually don't know if it has an inverter or not. It is very small because it uses a 91DB two stroke. Not exactly comparing apples to apples.

This is exactly what I was going to say.

You will notice that there is never a mention of any small Asia-imported generator that does not contain the words, cheaper than, as good as, less than, etc. a Honda generator. There is a reason for that. Honda EU series generators are the best at what they do and are priced accordingly. They are proven as being efficient, reliable, and durable. All those things come at a cost and that is what you are paying for when you buy one. There will always be a less-expensive option out there and some are most likely decent units, but it is tough to compare to the best. You can buy an EU2000I for $869 so unless the others are substantially less, why gamble?
Think of the Honda as the Engel of the small generator market, is there anything that works as well, lasts as long, and costs substantially less than an Engel or even a Waeco?

Ditto others :)

I would not buy one I own a Honda 2000 and I could have bought a cheaper one but why bother ending up with $700 wasted then have to go out and buy a $900 Honda :)

I own the Honda 2000 also and I love it. It is like an intricate piece of jewelry. They are amazingly quiet. We took it on a rustic camping trip and brought a TV and VCR so we could watch a movie by campfire. We did not find the sound to be abtrusive at all. I'm not sure if cheaper units have this feature but you can flip a switch to make it throttle down when no load is present. That feature could probably make up the cost difference in a short period if you are using it for industrial purposes.

I have (2) Honda 2000's and love em they run computer equipment great on fuel and are very quiet. Plus I can connect together if needed for additonal power.
Not sure if those Chinese ones can do all of that.

The EU200i that I have is QUIET and cost about $900. I have little experience with other brands.

Quiet is very important, as is parts and service centers, accessories, warranty, etc.

I am in the market for one now. Price points you have are very unappealing. I would shop for a used honda off craigslist first. If loudness were not an issue, the Chinese ones on sale at the local auto parts store are far cheaper .:gunt:

another update to an old thread...

These cheap knockoff generators are flooding the SoCal Craigslist. They have copy-cat plastics in red and blue colors and the ads have the words Yamaha and Honda included in order to grab your searches.

I recently scored my like-new Yamaha 1kW inverter generator for only $350 on Criagslist. I was patient and did not spring for one of the knockoffs.
