12V Desk top Lamp

I don't know which catagory to put this question in so I may try the general vehichle mods area also. I am looking for a 12V desk lamp. I have seen some very nice map lights that might be found in police vehicles. I am willing to just use some sort of 12V map light and build a base for it. I plan on attaching it to an adaptor that fits into any cigarette lighter socket. If you have links please send them. Thanks in advance!!

Not sure where you want to mount this lamp, but I found that a 55 watt halogen marine chart light on a goose neck fit right into my Maggiolina. It could easily be mounted on a dash or dash pad. This what you had in mind?

desk/map light

Hella makes several versions of a map light. one plugs into the power port and has a 9" long flex neck. others are like 12" and 19" long and mount with screws. come with inter changeable red and white lens, have halogen bulbs, draw 5 watts and work great. i have 2 of the 19" ones mounted overhead in our rubicon and like them. got them from 4 wheel parts. have them look in the hella cataloge about page 108.06. cost $50.

Thanks. The Hella map lights are exactly what I am looking for. I just want to make sure they will produce enough light.

enough light?

"enough" is subjective but i feel you would be very happy with them. to much light is as bad as not enough. with the 19" flex neck i can use them to light up the interior in back also. hope this helps.

Just go into a shop that sells desklamps and buy one with a 12V halogen bulb. In the base of the light there'll be a transformer, bypass this and wire it up with whatever sort of plug you like :)
