12V Charger Ports - What's best for your build?

This in my 4th video in a series highlighting build out tools and tips. In this video I cover the differences in 12v power ports, advantages and disadvantages of each and when you might want to use each style in your own build.

Hope you find these videos helpful.

Its awesome to skip over the best feature of that ’Dometic plug.

I know I totally spaced showing that it converts to the Euro Style as well. Either way I always change out to the 90 deg plug as I like how the cord doesn't stick out and the Dometic plug doesn't seem to engage the Powerlet socket as well as the standard Powerlet connectors.

The Best 12v Automotive Plug is the Engel Cigar / 2-Pin Plug which ARB also use and I heard a rumour that even Dometic might even be using them now.

In case you don't know they are a Cigar plug with the end that unscrews to reveal a 2-pin plug with a One Way Keyway and the screw collar screws in to the female socket locking it in place,

Then for high Amp Draw Items there is the well known Anderson Plug, ranging from the more common 50A models right up to 175A and 350A versions.

If you are serious about having a rock solid power supply then the Engel / ARB Cigar 2-Pin Plug is the best for Fridge use because it still allows the fridge to be used in any car with a Cigar Socket as well as still being able to use the 2-pin sockets,

These are the only 2 types of plug sockets you should insist on having on board as well as a couple of normal 12v Sockets.

Hope that helps.
