12V USB Charge Port vs. Power Bank Question

Disclosure: I'm an Electrical idiot.

I want to add 2x USB charge ports on my dash so when I have my InReach and GPS on the suction cup mounts I can use short little wires to power then instead of draping wires down to cig lighter or OE USB ports.

Here is the default, plan A:

But I'm considering a different approach, which I'm not sure is very smart so looking for more expert opinions. Could I use a small power bank instead, and wire the power input to the power bank into truck and then plug the devices into the power bank's USB ports? Pros are that the devices would still be powered for a while after truck turns off. Cons are... not sure? Too hot to have a power bank sitting in windshield in hot sun? Looking at a small one like this:

Any thoughts on whether or not the power bank approach is a good or bad idea?

Power bank would need to be charged at some point depending upon the amount of power the connected devises draw, but being you plan to hard wire it into the trucks charging, that would eliminate that issue unless it can't charge fast enough compared to depletion rate.

Try it and report back. Its a $14 solution.

I bricked a power bank using it to charge devices while it was itself charging. I think the battery management freaked out because the charging load made it think it needed to disconnect the cells. Since it was 30,000mah there was no way to reset the BMS because even with the LED flashlight on for 60 days it wasn't enough to kill the batteries and reset the BMS.

I have an ancient Jackery that doesn't seem to mind charging and powering device simultaneously. It has two ports, 1A and 2.1A, and charges at 1A so running two devices it might not charge at all or at best very slowly. The newer Jackery banks charge at 2A so if the load demands are low it might actually charge somewhat. You'd still be looking at several hours after you've removed the devices.

If you can make the time balance I think the only concern is keeping the battery cool in the summer mainly. Definitely not in direct sunlight like on a dashboard.
