Wow- this rig brings back memories.
My family had a 60s era, GMC frame-mount "Open Road" camper of similar design/vintage. Not 4WD- but it had a "granny gear" that was pretty much unusable, except to creep up steep hills.

We camped & drove X-country a few times to visit family and stay in national & state parks (and a few KOAs).
Great adventures... hope more families can have these experiences.
