1962 Willys CJ5 - 15k Miles - Highly Original - Rare options - Price on Asking
This is an exceptional opportunity to own a highly original Willys "Universal Jeep" CJ-5, the first massed produced 4WD vehicle. Charming original Spruce Tip Green paint and original green upholstery make this great driver all the more enjoyable. Rare factory options include a removable hardtop, dealer installed heater, dealer installed undercoating and Power Lock Hubs.
The originality of this CJ-5 is astounding. Aside from the original paint you will find matching engine, transmission and Carter YF carburetor. A good deal of the original rubber is intact, including the factory spare tire (which looks to have never been used). A period correct Motorola radio and the addition of rear bench seats, in the factory NOS upholstery, are among the few non-factory modifications.
This CJ-5 drives exceptionally well, starting easily on the manual choke and warming up quickly. Shifting through the 3-speed transmission is smooth, complimented by a recently replaced clutch. The original Hurricane inline-4 has substantial torque and provides good acceleration up to 60 mph. Brake feel and control is excellent from the original drum brakes. While very capable with selectable 4WD, this CJ-5 is fun to drive around the city, too. It's easy to park with great visibility. This is a classic you can use year-round, in town or in the country. Despite it's age, this truck is immensely capable and will take you most anywhere in the world, on-road or off.
This is an easy to own classic driver that's simple to service with parts availability on nearly every continent. You'll only find minor cosmetic issues including a few easily repaired rust spots (see photos). No cosmetic repairs were undertaken, only to preserve originality. This time capsule CJ-5 has been prized for its factory originality and used in period film, including the Bob Dylan bio-pic "A Complete Unknown" and the miniseries "The Crowded Room."
Three owners from new. The original owner of 50+ years purchased this Willys at Town & Country, an authorized Jeep dealer in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It was stored indoors and carefully preserved until George Baxter from Army Jeep Parts purchased it from the widowed original owner. Thereafter it was sold to automotive journalist Jamie Kitman of Octane Film Cars where it's remained, stored in Octane's beautiful warehouse garage in the village of Nyack, New York.
Please contact me with any and all questions. I can share more than 200 images upon request, including a drive and walk-around video.
Please ask about transport options if you need support. Nyack, NY is near major ports and is conveniently located near major interstate routes.
No title is available in New York for vehicles of this age. Sold on a bill of sale.
I look forward to chatting with you.
