1964 Unimog 404.1 Vehicle Build

The original plan was simple. Purchase a Unimog and find a place to alongside PCH to park it. Although I originally was looking for an old Jeep to restore, the fates would align that I'd come across a lonely Unimog in Huntington Beach on Craigslist. Little did I know that at that point, that I'd be building out and restoring an incredible overlanding machine. I like to say that, "She'll go over anything....just not very fast."

My intention is to keep the original 1964 Unimog mechanics, but work on updating the rest of her to make her as capable as any modern rig out there.

Nice truck. Something like this was on my short list, but we went a different route. Still, love those old Mogs...

So love this! I understand completely your philosophy...

I have a 100 series Land Cruiser, and a Suzuki Samurai. Of the two, it's the Samurai that makes every trip an adventure. Yeah, it's slow. Yeah, it's only got 60 horses. Yeah, it's small. Yeah, it rides rough. But, it's got guts, and it'll go most anywhere, and it's simplicity appeals to me, maybe even comforts me.

Much like old Mog's. Which I will own someday. Even the wife knows it's inevitable...

Drive on, man!

Love it

I have a 1966 404 Doka. I like your completed project. I wish I could use a radio box but it would hang over about 3 feet or so. Still searching for an ideal fit for a camper type box setup.
