1985 UHAUL VT-16 Vacationer 16 Foot Camper Trailer
This 1985 UHAUL VT-16 Vacationer 16 Foot Camper Trailer is one of only 59 manufactured by Uhaul for their camper rental program that existed from 1984 thru 1991. The Uhaul VT-16 trailers were unique in that they were equipped with both a Bathroom and Air Conditioning unlike the 1,800+ CT-13 13 foot Uhaul Campers that made up the bulk of their camper rental fleet.
This VT-16 Vacationer Uhaul trailer is very ORIGINAL with all the correct appliances including the refrigerator, heater, water heater, rooftop air conditioner, rooftop solar panel, power inverter and battery, kitchen sink with cover board, water pump, water tank, faucets, bathroom, Uhaul cabinet doors, Uhaul bathroom door, bathroom sink, front and rear dinette tables, complete factory seating cushions, factory surge trailer brakes, original 2 inch trailer ball coupler, 3 original 13 inch by 4 inch “3” nub steel wheels with chrome baby moon hubcaps and good tires, original working Bargman door latch with 2 keys, nice rust-free chassis with original aluminum rear bumper, nice original fiberglass shell that has not been repainted or damaged, correct exterior Uhaul graphics along with the original warning and instruction stickers still on the trailer and wheels, original front window rock guard, original working sliding windows and more!
The exterior fiberglass shell is nice original condition. The exterior fiberglass shell retains the original finish never having been painted or covered with a Mop N Glow type floor wax as some do with their fiberglass shell trailers. The rooftop factory A/C works and still has the original Uhaul A/C cover with the 9 Foot clearance warning sticker. Many other original small warning stickers are still on the trailer such as the heater, lug-nut tightening warning, tire air pressure, propane gas warning and the original VIN sticker on the driver’s side of the trailer. All the original windows are complete, with good glass and in good working condition. At some point the windows could stand to have new rubber window slide tracks installed. The original front window rock guard works properly with gas shocks and latch. The factory solar panel is still on the trailer with the inverter and battery system. The original entry door fits properly with rock solid hinges, opens and closes properly with the original working Bargman door latch with 2 keys and good weather stripping. The exterior access doors for the water heater, refrigerator, water tank and electrical cord are all original with original warning labels and work properly. The 110 Volt shore power electrical cord is complete and working. The only exterior leak in this trailer that I have observed is a small leak from the top of the bathroom vent. Rather that glob a bunch of sealant on top the trailer vent chasing this small leak I have a plastic container that fits perfectly over the exterior vent I use to cover the vent when the trailer is sitting still outside at a campground in the rain. I personally store the trailer indoors in my shop when not out camping.
The frame/chassis on this trailer is nice and solid. The front ball hitch coupler is original Uhaul 2 inch ball coupler. This trailer is equipped with factory surge trailer brakes from Uhaul. The trailer exterior light wiring is complete with a 7 pin RV type of plug. All the safety chains and emergency trailer break away actuator chains are complete. This trailer has 3 original “3” nub 13 inch by 4 inch Uhaul specific trailer wheels with good tires mounted on the rims. I have the correct spare tire and wheel combination. There are 2 reproduction baby moon hubcaps on the wheels mounted on the trailer to replace the original Uhaul baby moon hubcaps. The rear aluminum bumper is in excellent condition. The propane bottle mount and propane bottle are complete along with the propane hose, regulator along with gas in the propane tank. I have recently installed a new reproduction set of correct Uhaul Vacationer V-16 exterior graphics to return the exterior appearance of the trailer to original in-service Uhaul Livery.
The interior of the trailer is very original and in good condition. The floor throughout the trailer is solid. All the interior fiberglass cabinetry is in nice condition. All the seating/bed cushions are complete, in good condition with good foam and zippers. All the Uhaul marked cabinet and bathroom doors are complete. The gas cooktop is complete. I have never used the cooktop to cook. The refrigerator is original and works on 110 volt shore power electricity when plugged in at a campground. I have never used the refrigerator on propane gas. The original heater is in the trailer. I have never used the original gas heater. This trailer also has a water heater. I have never used the water heater. The water tank holds water and the water pump is complete. The electrical lighting system works on 110 when plugged into a campground. I have never used the solar/battery system for 12 volt lighting when boondocking. Both dinette tables are complete and in good condition. This trailer will sleep 3 people comfortably and 4 in a pinch. The bathroom in a VT-16 has a sink and a porta-potty which is included. None of the VT-16 Uhaul trailers ever had a working shower however there are other VT-16 owners that have easily added a shower system with the addition of a floor drain, shower head and “Stinky Slinky” drain hose for use when at a campground with sewer connections! The upper storage cabinets in the trailer are in nice condition along with the wardrobe storage area. All the hidden water and electrical systems under the seating areas are complete.
I own 2 VT-16 Uhaul trailers. I want to heavily modify one trailer by adding many additional modern conveniences. This trailer is so original and complete therefore this is not the trailer to modify. I have decided to sell this VT-16 trailer and modify my other VT-16 Uhaul trailer.
