1987 Turbo 4Runner Odyssey Dual Battery + Accessory planning

Getting to the point where I need to plan out this system. I had always thought I would run (2) Odyssey 1200's via National Luna Smart Solenoid + upgraded 140A alternator and big 3. I'm now on my 2nd Odyssey in a few years because I didn't understand what the AGM needs (project car). I think I may still proceed with the dual 1200's, but I'm having doubts after learning about Lithium house batteries and the Redarc BCDC1240D. It would be cool to mount a Battle Born in the spare wheel area.

If I decided to stay with an AGM for the starter and house, would I be wise to buy the GENPRO10X2 now to keep my new Odyssey 1200 in shape while I finish some projects on the truck? I'd like to be able to tap into shore power in the driveway. Or should I just go for the BCDC1240D now, or is that too much juice for the Odyssey 1200?

FWIW: Consult with the Odessey gurus on this forum. IIRC, they are notorious for wanting a high charge voltage and Toyotas are notorious for only charging at about 13.9v - a death sentence. (Get out your multi-meter and check.) YMMV, but ask the question.

You really can't have too many amps for a lithium iron battery. A BCDC 1240D would be fine. Were it me, I would spring for the 1250.

Again, YMMV.

(Gotta love the abbreviations! ;) )

Have you already swapped the stock alternator for a high amp unit? I had problems putting a high amp alternator in my '85 22r. It seems like they mostly come with smaller than stock pulleys, and I would throw the belt around 5k rpm. I'm still wanting more juice, so would be interested in knowing if you had better luck or which unit you're thinking about. I think I went with LC'S alternator, and ended up going back to a more-or-less stock unit.

I have not bought the LCE 140A Alt yet, but I have heard these issues on posts other places. Maybe it’s not the move then. This DC to DC charging could be the way to go.

I’ll be honest, I had to look up most of those acronyms haha.

How do I summon these gurus you speak of?

Just start a thread with "Odessey" in the title; something like "Best Charging Practices for Odessey Battery." (Or, if you prefer, "My Odessey battery died, again!")

I have never owned one of these beasts, but there are several folks here who have, with greater or lesser success.
