Aloha All,
In 2018 I purchased two Perentie's from Australian Frontline Machinery, one 1991 FFR and one 1989 GS. Both vehicles have low kms, and the '89 GS has 48,733 km on the odometer (which is, according to the record book supplied with vehicle, accurate). For those of you unfamiliar with the Perentie: It was the Australian Army's 4x4 from the 1980's t0 20teens when it was replaced by Gwagens. It was made in country by Jaguar Land Rover Australia from some Land Rover parts. It has a fully galvanized chassis, 12v light system, HD springs and dampers, Salisbury rear axle (Dana 60) vacuum operated center differential, lower gear range with and uprated LT95 4 speed gearbox combined transfer case. It is powered by the iconic Isuzu 3.9l 4BD1 diesel motor. The rear area is fitted with a bolt on Roll Cage and roof tray.
This motor combination is well supported around the world and capable of impressive upgrades or can be run as is. The vehicles are barebones, no power steering, no power brakes, an anemic heater and not massive horsepower. There are readily available kits to remedy those old school tractor amenities, such as turbos, power brakes, power steering, AC etc. Obviously, if you want to go with bigger tires and lifts, all of the drive components have aftermarket upgrades. To me, it was the best Land Rover Defender ever to come off of an assembly line.
Specifics:
This vehicle hasn't had anything done to it other than a change of fluids and filters. The breather hose on the fuel tank dribbles when full, and the clutch cylinder needs to be replaced but is operable. The original soft top is a throw away, but I have waterproofed it with Flex Seal. It has the original Michelin XZL's 7.50x16 tires with good tread, but the tires are, well, tired. The spare tire holds air but has a bullet hole that I have patched. There is some surface rust on various bits and bobs, mainly the hood frame material. It also has dents and dings here and there. It has only been used for around the farm on private roads and light off roading a few times a month. It isn't currently registered.
I need to sell the vehicle. I would be interested in doing a full build out for someone, to specifications TBD, for time and materials plus base price. I am also willing to sell as is. The vehicle is located in Hawaii. I would be willing to arrange delivery to nearest shipping port and shipping to Mainland USA. The buyer would pay for all shipping and associated costs, besides my time and energy getting it to my nearest port.
About me:
I am a 52 yo single dad in my last six months of a graduate program (MPH program) that has been admitted to medical school. I will have some time to devote to a full build out of vehicle if someone is interested and willing. I have an extensive background in timber framing, boatbuilding, off-grid development, residential design and build, and cabinet making. I don't have professional experience as a car mechanic, but I have been wrenching on Land Rovers for over twenty years and on tractors and heavy equipment for almost forty years. I have made numerous cross country treks in Land Rovers across North America and used 4x4's around the world for work.
Price:
I am asking $35,000 USD's as is, and am open to reasonable offers. If someone is interested in having me build a vehicle to their specification and budget, I would consider a much lower (in my opinion) asking price. I would be willing to work on the vehicle for $35 pmh plus materials. Any painting, engineered welding, or major engine work (ie not bolt on kits) could be sub contracted out to professionals.
