My son is still driving my 90 4Runner. The mounting plate in the inside firewall for the clutch pedal pivot is failing again. The design is flawed and the metal plate tears on the left side until it fails and you can't actuate the clutch anymore.
I replaced this plate at about 100K and then again at around 180K miles. The truck now has about 260K miles on it and the darn plate is tearing again.:violent-smiley-031:
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I am thinking about pulling the plate out and just welding a reinforcing plate across the tear area. I hate the idea of just ordering another one and waiting for the inevitable tear again.
