Just found a 1990 e350 diesel with only 9k miles on it. It has a 12ft aluminum box on the back that I plan on converting to camper for fulltime travelling. I need to have it mostly completed by the first week of january because thats when I need to hit the road. I pretty confident in the build out part of it but have a few issues that i will need to adress

1. The truck was used in upstate NY and sat outside for the last few years so there is some rust issues on the frame. Nothing to bad but definetly needs to be taken care of before it gets to bad. Im either going to use por15 or im going to have the undercarriage sandblasted and painted.

2. Need to figure a way to ad Air conditioning in the cab. I travel with 120lb bulldog and he needs ac . Im either going to go the junkyard route and take the parts off an old e350 or use a new universal conversion kit . Found some on ebay for around $500

3. Water heater ? Really want to use a tankless propane like the Eccotemp FVI12-LP. This one is not rated for rv use but think it should work.

4. Layout is a work in progresss. I pretty much have the basic layout just deciding if im going to put a side door on for easier access.

5. Figuring out how i will carry both my tw200 (motorcycle)and my craigcat(small boat) Im going to put the craigcat on the roof. The difficult part is going to be getting it up down from there. Any suggestions would greatly help. The tw200 is either going inside or on the front. Cant put it on the back since i wll be pulling a trailer most of the time
Its going to be a slow start since i need to finish up a project but in a few weeks Ill be working at this fulltime till january

Need pics!

POR15, is pretty amazing stuff. Just remember not to get it on your skin, seriously. And its not UV stable, not really a problem on a frame, it just turns kind matte to getting a grey shade to it.

Cant help on the AC, but sounds like adding will be a PITA either way. Id go junkyard though I think.

Lots of people use the eco temp around here, i believe it will need to be mounted on the outside somehow though.

Had to google Cragicat, those look cool! Do the pontoons separate? depending on weight, a couple ramps/poles and a winch on the front of the box should get it on top. Would definitely be interesting the first couple of times though.

Pictures will be coming ! soon as i get her home. Ive read good things about por15 but just nervous I wont be able to get to all the spots that need attention. I am also considering removing the body and having it sandblasted.
Ya the craigcat is a pretty cool boat. I was thinking the same thing on how to get it on the roof. When i bought it I took it apart and muscled it up a ladder to the top of my buses roof. No fun.

It can be sprayed but your better be on the ball cleaning your gun, or you'll never use it again. That stuff is completely unforgiving.

Dont worry I will be adding a bunch of pics when I get it home and start the build. Just picked up a slide on truck camper that rolled over on the highway. Going to make it alot easier than sourcing parts.

Until we see pics, this vehicle does not exist

Completely off topic, but just a short hijack.

When I was in Marine Corp boot one of my Drill Instructors was named Guillory. You wouldn't happen to be relation to that low down dirty varmint would ya? :)

Feel like I saw this pass me on 81 yesterday. Where in NY are you? Let me know if you want a hand with something!

Edit:

Roofers use little winch and boom systems which are basically the same as the cranes used to launch most of the small boats. I'm not familiar with that design, but if it is small enough to go on top of the roof something similar with a basic trailer winch may be enough.
