1992 Landcruiser VX Limited

Can anyone tell me anything about the 1992 VX Limited LC? I've been searching all over online and have found them abroad but not in the US much. One is for sale locally here in Cali but don't know if it's import or what...any info appreciated, thanks!

Sounds like an import, but I don't know any more about it than that. If it is an import, I'd like to know how it was brought into the country, 'cause it's not old enough. Is it already registered in California?

Japanese Import most likey. VX is highest level of trim, leather, fridge, rear AC etc etc
More than likey wont have lockers.
Can be imported legally as it meets emissions.

I've heard only north American models got EGRs, so it may not meet emissions, assuming it's a gas model, plus there's DOT specifications that it may not technically meet, unless specificly retrofitted. It's very common and legal to import Japanese 80s into Canada, so maybe it migrated south from there. A Canadian citizen would be able to drive across the boarder legally and I think even register it. But they shouldn't be able to legally sell it, from what I understand.

No axle lockers (K292) looks clean but looks to me to be a Japanese Import.
And its a VX, not a VX Limited as stated.

I doubt it's japanese as it is left hand drive. VX Limited spec commonly came with the cloth velour upholstery. Also this is equipped with an MPH speedo. Japan uses KM. I think the only options on VX Limited were the lockers, Cold weather package (fuel filter heater, seat heaters, radiator blind). I havn't seen many gas VX, the 3FE is a bit of a dog but will last forever. Without the lockers, the only interesting thing about this unit is the console fridge, (for me, anyway).

That one doesnt have the lockers or the fridge which lead me to think it was just a VX.
And yep didint think about the LHD your more than likely right.

Not a vx

I think this is just a regular US market FJ80. Just the fact that it shows up on Carfax and Experion through the VIN tells me that.

Someone added the 93+ 16 inchers as the door tag clearly indicates that it came with 15s. You can find the VX mouldings and brush bar online.

Just because I have factory Aussie market decals that I ordered from a dealer in Australia, and split rims on mine, it doesn't make it from Oz.

The door tag indicates it's a U.S. factory imported vehicle. The date of manufacture seems to indicate it might be one of the last 3FE 80s made or at least late into the 3FE production.

I don't see anything compelling about that rig, especially for that price. If it was maybe $3000, the low mileage would be nice, but otherwise, you can find a nice 1FZ model for 10K easy. Maybe even with lockers and lower mileage.

Of course you are correct, there is no bar fridge or retracting mirrors. I say USDM FJ80 with side mouldings and a damage multiplier. Wouldn't really peak my interest...

Thanks

I want to say thanks to all of you for the excellent input. First of all you have quenched my fervor to go see this truck immediately! I certainly hope to be able to ask about whatever 80 I finally find (hopefully) this summer when I am really shopping. :wings:

I had a 94 German spec 80 series that had those same side mouldings. I pulled them off and sold them for a mint. Those are easy to get and ship and install. The same with the hood emblem. The thing I find the most weird about this particular truck is the grill guard. That definitely looks like something off an import Cruiser and shipping something that large overseas would be very expensive. I bet this Land Cruiser has some stories about where it got the mods.
