Hey all, I'm a long time lurker. I've been a Jeep guy and most recently a Subaru guy. I've been wanting a Land cruiser for awhile now and I think I found one. Here is the ad. I went and looked at it tonight, drove it. Good condition, the only things I found were what was mentioned. My question is to you much more educated folks is, is this a good deal? I am pretty handy mechanically and one of my best friends' is a mechanic.

.This is from his ad.

I have a 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser for sale. This is a stock truck in good condition. It has a few dings here and there. There is almost no rust, just a few surface spots. The engine and automatic trans. are in great shape. It is 4WD with front and rear electric locking differentals.
Known problems:
The power steering pump just recently started leaking.
There is a small exaust leak just before the catalytic converter.

Put it this way. I skimmed your post and at first I thought it was a for sale ad. I was thinking about how much it might cost to fly out and drive that back to Tennessee. If that's all that's wrong with it, the diff locks work, and it isn't killed on miles, I would jump on it.

The diff locks work, it has 230,000 miles but overall is a pretty nice truck. The owner is the third owner, has almost all service records from back to 97, says he never wheeled it. The only rust I saw sw a about a quarter sized patch on the rear right fender.

Things it's got going for it.

It's a 93. The best year. <--- (That's a period, as in "the best year, period")
It's white. The best color. (see above to period reference)
It's locked.

It should have the bus tranny (A442F) and the big starter (3.5hp)

It's not likely without issues that will come up. Things I'd look at when negotiating- The front end rebuilt in the last 20,000 miles? tie rods good? Leaks other than PS pump?

If you're capable of your own mechanic work (and since your a previous Jeep guy, I'm sure you are ) it's a great truck that's easy to work on, will need maintenance, but will take you where you want to go and you can sleep and eat out of it when you get there.

Body>Mechanicals if you are going to keep it for a while...

Body work is expensive and labor intensive...engine work and replacing all those things that need it after 230,000 miles is comparatively easy IMO.

Put simply I would much rather have a nice rust free, no dents, clean interior truck with some issues mechanically than the reverse...

Thanks guys, I'll be picking it up Monday. Flagster, one of my best friends has a body shop at his house. His dad was a welding teacher for 30 years and they have built a ton of hot rods, drag cars and our jeeps. I'm lucky to be surrounded by folks that are smarter and more skilled than I am who are also willing to teach me.
