1996 Land Rover Discovery SD - Silver
Approximately 164k miles
Price Reduced: Now $2500/offer

The time has come. I am selling my ‘96 Disco because I’ve replaced it with an ‘04. It's been a good truck to me and I wish I could keep it as a toy but it’s just not practical. I’ve owned the vehicle for 6 years and 45k miles and made all the aftermarket modifications myself. The body is in fair condition as is the interior. The vehicle runs strong and drives well but could use some TLC. I'm negotiable on price and also interested in a Series I or II (not Disco) project trade. Feel free to ask here any questions you may have.
I’ll try to list as many high and low points as I can.

Interior:
Grey leather manual seats in good condition except driver has some stitching letting go.
Carpet in good condition – no major stains.
Headliner has very slight sagging where the sunroofs would be - see picture.
Panasonic in-dash CD player- nothing fancy but it works. Cargo door subwoofer has been removed.
A/C and heat work well.
All power windows and locks work.

Exterior/Body:
ARB front winch bumper. A little beat up from use. No winch.
Hella 500 fog lights.
OME medium duty coils – about 1.5” of lift.
OME shocks
RTE steering dampener relocation kit with OME dampener.
Rear propshaft replaced with u-joint shaft.
Rear fenders trimmed for larger tires.
No rust except the usual spots at the rear doors where the pillar meets the fender which shows some paint bubbling – see pictures.
Clear coat getting thin in a few places, mostly on the roof, but doesn’t look too bad due to silver paint color.
Rear sway bar removed but available if you want to tighten up the handeling.
Replaced all wheel bearings two years ago.

Mechanical:
4.0 stock motor
Aftermarket Nippon Denso gear reduction starter approx. two years old.
Alternator replaced with rebuilt Bosch two years ago.
Updated coolant expansion tank.
Cooling system rebuilt three years ago. Radiator rebuilt, all hoses replaced, new thermostat and water pump.

Other known issues:
Many seals are in need of replacement.
There is a slight coolant weep on the exterior of the block at the head gasket joint. It’s been leaking for years and not worsened so I’ve just kept an eye on the coolant level and condition. Doesn’t seem to be leaking into the cylinder but I’ve never had it inspected in any way.
Windshield is cracked but the crack is down low behind the wipers so it is not in driver’s line of sight.
Front driver fender dented due to fender bender, as is the hood – see pictures.
Driveline is getting quite a bit of slack in it.
ABS and SRS lights on – dang bulbs refuse to burn out. Had a shop look into the issues while having other work done but never found a cause.
Mismatched tires – 3 are 265/70 retreads with plenty of tread left, one is a 235/85 retread which hardly has any miles on it. I have an old 235/85 BFG KM2 available for the spare if you want it.
Rear PS door latch/lock mechanism sticks sometimes.

Thanks! Land Rover enthusiasts might like to know it's called Altai Silver. Or maybe they wouldn't.
Offers anyone? I'll throw in a Safarigard diff cover!

When you put the truck in gear you will hear a pretty good "crunch". There is a little play at pretty much every connection along the driveline. The u-joints in the propshafts seem to be tight. I think most of the slack is at the t-case and diffs. It's a common Disco/LR issue that is probably not a immediate concern.

Would that be a "crunch" or a "clunk"?

Crunch = bad

Clunk = pretty darned normal for these old beasties.

KAA
'94 Disco...still clunking along :)

The transmission and t-case both shift and drive fine. I know the sounds are due to driveline slop/slack. Shift into drive and everything turns a degree or two and makes a noise. I would term the sound it makes as a "crunch" but then again I would also say a police siren sounds like "woo woo woo" if I had to write it down. Kinda subjective. I will say it sounds just like several of my friend's Discos when they shift into gear.

Hi Folks, I need to get this thing out of my garage. Winter is on its way to Colorado and would really like to park my DD inside. Asking price is now $2500.
