The Dee Mill is selling our urban/rough terrain reclaimed log salvage crane truck. These are impressive and iconic vehicles and this one in particular helped get our business off the ground. I know some people build these trucks into expedition campers.

I am the second owner of this vehicle, after the US government, and have kept it in top condition. The truck was refurbished and fully serviced by a local FMTV specialist, including full rebuild of the crane. All systems are in good working condition, including the Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) which we use on almost every salvage job to avoid messing up clients' yards. This truck is driven multiple times per week; it is not stale.

Registered with the Oregon DMV as a truck with Oregon plates.

Located in Hood River, Oregon.

@thedeemill.com (note: if you are interested in buying the truck, please do not call the Dee Mill phone number; the mill manager is getting tired of fielding calls)

Truck specs:
  • 1999 Stewart & Stevenson M1084-A1 5-ton
  • 10,000 miles
  • full time 4x6 with engage-able middle axle for 6x6 operation (we use this feature often)
  • 3126 CAT turbo-diesel engine, 330HP
  • Allison MD3070PT 7-speed transmission
  • Central Tire Inflation System

A word of warning to anybody that is thinking of buying a FMTV or LMTV... DO A LOT OF RESEARCH FIRST!

Wise advise for any purchase!

This truck was refurbished by an LMTV/FMTV expert immediately after leaving military service. It has been absolutely problem-free during the 5 years of my ownership, except for one brake chamber needing a diaphragm replaced. These trucks are designed to be operated and maintained by 18y/o service members - they are pretty fail-proof work rigs. Maybe a bit overkill as an expedition rig.

I beg to differ!

They do not have 2 speed transfer cases and the first gear is not very low (8:1). These military vehicles were designed to be "fleet vehicles" and groups of the them were always followed by an Oshkosh 8x8 wrecker. Look at any medium heavy duty 4x4 military truck from any other country... They have VERY low "working gears" so that they can self recover!

It sounds like you are speaking from experience, so I hesitate to contradict your statements. However, we have been unable to get this truck stuck under any circumstances. And our specialty at The Dee Mill is recovering high value hardwood timber - "salvage logging" - from very technical locations, then milling it into slabs and dimensional lumber.
